Tuesday, 27th March 2018 After work today, we headed to Fiskeriet Youngstorget for dinner. This is a small seafood cafe that serves lovely Norwegian Fish Soup as well as Fish and Chips. We also ordered their daily special - Curry Rice with Prawns. Our mains came with complimentary toast and butter which Ryan was lamenting how he would always make a trip down and purchase their butter spread for breakfast. The seats are perched against the high tables which did not make it ideal for a long, sit down meal. Anyway, the service was good and efficient and the prices friendly. Loved everything about our dinner so much so that I bought the Fish Soup again at the airport before my flight back home on Friday afternoon. It did not disappoint indeed!... read more

Monday, 26th March 2018 It was rather quiet during breakfast at the hotel this morning. The breakfast menu at the hotel remained the same everyday but the items tasted fresh and warm. This was the Monday before Easter and most of the business travellers had probably returned home for their holidays. In fact, it was the same situation when I took the train to the office. The crowds were visibly thinner this morning and some of our colleagues had already went for their Easter break. For dinner this evening, we decided to head to Agave for Mexican dishes. As usual, we ordered a couple of mains and tacos for sharing so that we could try a bit of everything. It was nice to hang out with a group of people after work so that we could ... read more

Sunday, 25th March 2018 After breakfast at the hotel this morning, we took the Tunnelbanan to Kungstradgarden Station where we transfered to Tram #7 to the ABBA Museum. Kungstradgarden could be nice to visit during the spring season when the hundreds of sakura trees would blossom in unison to usher into the warm season. Tram #7 is the only tramline in service in Stockholm city. It provides a direct linkage from the Central District to Djurgarden, a museum island located off the east side of the city. We chose to stop by at the ABBA Museum since I was (am still) a big fan of their upbeat songs having watched the Mama Mia Musical in London as well as dancing to their music during our brief clubbing days when we were younger. We did not choose ... read more

Saturday, 24th March 2018 R popped by for breakfast this morning before our long journey to Stockholm where we would be staying over the weekend. We had a sumptuous breakfast before our long, six hours train journey to Central Stockholm. We rode on the 11.16am train from Oslo Central Station. Sitting in the First Class Coach, we found the leg room in between seats to be extremely generous. It was worth spending the SEK 100 extras for the comfort. There was a small bar at the end of our car where we could help ourselves to some coffee and water as well as some fruits and desserts. There was also a meal car in the middle of the train line where sandwiches, salads and drinks could be purchased. While the 525km journey was lengthy, we found ... read more

Friday, 23rd March 2018 R was not available today as he had a wedding party to attend this evening. So after work today, I took a tram from office to Brugata where I linked up with TS outside Scanasia Supermarket as he had a couple of items to pick up before the weekend. After we were done with grocery shopping, we headed to the Rice Bowl Restaurant for dinner. This was one of the highly recommended places for affordable meals in Oslo and certainly one of the favourite spots for our Singaporean colleagues when they were seconded to the city for work some years back. I guessed this place reminded them of home even though it is a Thai Restaurant actually. There were no other eating spots that served Singapore cuisine. For our Friday evening dinner, ... read more

Thursday, 22nd March 2018 On the way to the train station every morning, I would pass by the Palace building on my right. On some sunny days, the palace facade would look especially impressive when the first rays of light shone on it. The Palace faced directly on the east overlooking the Karl Johans Gate. Today is a bright, sunny day with clear blue skies as we left office. We decided to head to the Aker Brygge for dinner to take advantage of the nice weather. R brought us to Rorbua, a cosy eating spot that served Norweigian cuisine. We ordered the fish soup, salmon and whale meat for sharing. This was yet another great recommendation from R as everybody gave a thumbs-up for the dishes. ... read more

Wednesday, 21st March 2018 Tram 11 is a very useful service that plies between R's apartment in Majorstuen and the hotel that I resided in downtown Oslo. It saved me the efforts to walk home from the National Theatre Station especially on cold, wintry evenings. We were very glad that our colleague from the Singapore office, TS was able to join us for our dinner plans this evening. Prior to meeting him, we took a stroll along Karl Johans Gate after work to take in some pictures of the impressive Parliament Building. We decided to go for Chinese food at Shanghai 2K18 this evening as we were having some cravings for rice. We ordered a couple of meat and veggie dishes for sharing over dinner and it was a nice and inexpensive experience as we rounded ... read more

Tuesday, 20th March 2018 I woke up with a nice view of Oslo city from my hotel bedroom this morning. H lamented that this was a very typical European city shot (nice!) when he saw the picture. Today is a cloudy day to speak of as I prep myself to work amidst the chilly temperatures. Typically on a working day, our 30-minute lunch break stretches between 11 to 11.30am. Lunch is buffet style that changes daily to appeal to different tastes. For dinner, R and myself headed to Fridays which had a restaurant opposite Oslo Central Station. The prices at Fridays were almost always steep as we ordered two mains for sharing. I didn't quite like the ribs today as it was overcooked and dry. Otherwise, this was a good dinner with great service to end ... read more

Monday, 19th March 2018 Breakfast at the hotel was a happy affair for me every morning. Even though I spent no more than 30 minutes at the buffet table each day, the spread filled me up and the coffee gave me a good head-start for the work day. I normally arrived at my work place before eight in the morning and finished work by five or five thirty in the evening. For dinner, R brought me to the Brugata district in Oslo where there were a couple of Asian restaurants and supermarkets operating within the vicinity. Prior to dinner, I had my Mcflurry treats at Mcdonalds before popping over to Lille Saigon 1. This is a no-frills Vietnamese eatery where it was filled with dinner crowds on a Monday evening. It wasn't difficult to explain why. ... read more

Sunday, 18th March 2018 After touching down at the airport, R brought me to the railway platform to board a NSB train to the National Theatre Station in downtown Oslo. With two departing trains every hour, this is a comparatively cheaper way to travel (NOK 66) compared to the Flytoget Service (NOK 190). After depositing my baggage at the hotel, R and I headed to the Cafe Cathedral within the Karl Johans Gate vicinity for breakfast. Since this was a Sunday, most of the shops in downtown Oslo were not opened for business. In the afternoon, we did a fair bit of sight-seeing to cover areas like the Opera House, Aker Brygge as well as the Akershus Fortress where it housed a rather extensive Military Museum (free admission). We arrived at R's apartment at the upmarket ... read more
