This week I was sick, so it was a bit of a write0off week, however I still did a lot! On Tuesday of last week it was my day off. My friends from work and I decided to have dinner together (of course on our one day off we all go into work). I had the grilled seafood platter! (Oysters Natural, Oysters Kilpatrick, Morton Bay Bugs, King Prawns, Prawns cutlets, Whole Crab, Calamari, Fish Filet and Mussels in a Napoli chilli sugo...... aka AMAZING!). Then we bounced around the restaurants neighboring us: some drinks here, some desert there, some more food for Brianna because once I eat a lot I always get hungry again after. We formed a little group and met up with Trish. Trish and I being the tourist we are were brought to ... read more

Another quick update! Ive been working quite alot and trying to site see when I can in my free time. This weekend Trish and I went quickly to Brighton Beach, know for the "Beach Boxes". Beach Boxes are all over the world, but apparently originated here on Brighton Beach. They were meant for royalty and the rich to change in. There a little bigger then an out house. They go for between 200,000$ and 300,000$ and theres not even running water! I booked my fight to Carins on December 22nd and booked a three day dive live aboard from the 24th-26th. Which means..... Ill be diving on christmas!! I wonder if santa will find me all the way out on the Great Barrier Reef? ... read more

lemonade = sprite, lemonade is what then? i have no idea how to describe it to ask. Lemon/lime squash is what? oh its like a lift.... Whats a lift? oh its like a lemonade soda.... so like lemonade? no thats sprite! And I tried a lift... not lemonade. So i have no clue. Id like a lemon lime bitter please... uh okay? I ask what it is and im told its just a soft drink with this in it (i smell the bottle and its like PURE RUBBING ALCOHOL). Apparently its like a mocktail. You just put a drop in for the taste. And if im having this much trouble with the pop.. im mean soda...soft drinks? Imagine how hard the beers and wines and everything else is WITH THEIR ACCENTS TOO. And ACCENTS! every single ... read more

G'DAY, Mate! HOW YOU GOIN"? So I'm here! I'm down under in the land of bouncing kangaroos and cuddly koalas. 16 hours time difference from back home; Its like I'm in the future! I left home bright and early Tuesday morning on November 2nd just to fly an 1 1/2 hours to Chicago for a ten hour layover! Believe it or not time flew by with waking up from my midday naps to being surrounded by American Army troopers, family conference calls after family conference calls and doing laps of the HUGE Chicago airport. Now, I have a map where I put a pin in all of the cities I've been. I know I wasn't "technically" Chicago... but does my 10 hours count for anything?? When I landed in Melbourne I manged to figure out ... read more

That's it, that's all folks! Today we were able to go out! And that means I completed all the dives and certifications i set out to do! All the dives today were on nitrox, my first time using it and it was pretty cool. The first dive was my deepest dive yet at 101 feet (everyone else went 100feet...) on a wreck called 'Captain Dan" and it was a beauty of a wreck!. Huge! With all kinds of cabins and hallways (theres a bunch of youtube videos of it). We didnt penetrate the wreck but I would love you go back again and see the inside. I was with my original dive buddies, Mark and Jim, who both snapped some pictures of the dives, so those will be posted when I get them. Both Mark ... read more

Diving is Life..... everything else is just waiting That is a quote from one of Steve's shirt's, and it definitely proved true yesterday. I was all set and packed for my last dive for the Advance Open water course Saturday morning until I received the always dreaded call from my instructor letting me know that the dive boat canceled on us due to weather. The wind had picked up to between 20-25 knots creating 4-6 foot waves and there was a small craft advisory out. So no diving yesterday and that's what happens with diving. It was a beautiful sunny day, but windy. And NO diving. Today we were able to go ahead with our schedule rescue dive because it was in a fresh water lake (my first fresh dive!). My two dive buddies were ... read more

Working for the weekend! I haven't dove again this week, however I have accomplished a fair amount. On Monday evening (after a day full of studying), I successful complete my first dive certification! A dive certification I actually wasn't planing on having, Enriched Air, also know as "Nitrox". The air in a regular diving tank is the same as the air we breath only compressed; 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Breathing nitrogen under pressure means your body is accumulating it in your body and this is why there is a limited amount of time a diver can stay at a certain depth and why divers must wait a calculated amount of time between dives in order for the nitrogen to leave the body. Nitox is a difference percentage mix between oxygen and nitrogen and specifically ... read more

DAY ONE: DIVE ONE I arrived in Florida on Friday October 15th in the evening. Saturday I tested out my equipment in the pool a couple times and my first day of real diving was today! Auntie Evelyn and Uncle Steve were kin enough to give me a regulator, octopus (safety regulator) and a gauge to add to my dive equipment! I was very excited this morning with some nervous mixed in, mostly because I hadn't dove in over two years (the weather isn't always dependable in Florida, so unfortunately I missed out on dive opportunities when I visited last February). But all the nervousness vanished when i jumped into the water and grabbed a hold of the decent line of the boat, which was anchored to the wreck I was about to explore. The ... read more
