Very lazy day today, Wednesday. We spent the morning at the campsite relaxing with our books (well Kindle in my case and Tablet in Bob’s). After a bit of lunch we headed down to the beach, Santa Margarita end, the holiday resort part of Roses. It really does have a rather lovely beach with a very pleasant promenade running behind, its full length. Lots of shops selling your usual beachside tat and cafes and restaurants galore. We had a very good swim as the sea was quite warm, once immersed anyway and perfect for swimming. Warmer than campsite pool so I made sure I swam enough to cover my daily pool lengths as no intention of freezing myself in the pool later. The sun hid itself behind a cloud but warm enough anyway so we lay ... read more

Had a really lovely day today. Kisbee was raring to go up the through the rocky hills above the coast and through the Cap de Creus national park. The road was windy, the views pretty spectacular though there are not too many places to stop to admire them as there are quite a lot of almost hairpin bends and most are on a steep incline. This is wild countryside, very rocky and mainly uncultivated though nearer to Cadaques we found vineyards and olive groves which had been carved and terraced out of the rocky terrain. Kisbee did us proud and didn’t issue a word of complaint all 11 miles it took to get us up to the top of the peninsula and then dropping down to the coast at the sensational white seaside town of Cadaques. ... read more

Not far to go today, not far at all. Just round the bay north to Roses and a change of campsite. Packed up and away by 10 and off to Camping Salata on the edge of Roses. Big queue at reception. If we hadn’t booked on Friday we would not have got a pitch today. Just walked round the site and every pitch is full. This campsite only went ACSI this year and not surprised it’s full given it’s location only 10 minutes walk away from a gorgeous soft sand beach and 5 minutes by car from Roses town. We have a pitch in a corner, tucked away, spacious and only problem is the iffi wifi which will probably not be good enough to load this to the blog site. Annoying as the wifi is not ... read more

Decided on a Kisbee trip today, south round the bay. Much better day than yesterday. Love it when I can get up and dress straight away in shorts and suntop with confidence that the sun is out. Kisbee came out of the garage, raring to go as he’s travelled these roads before so no map needed. We went south as we’re moving to the north side of the bay on Monday. First stop St Marti d’empuries. Very popular spot with a lovely beach and a pretty old village behind the sea. We stopped for coffee, as we did last time we were here, but as we sat relaxing in the sunshine we got more and more plagued by pesky flies so we gave up and returned to Kisbee. Next stop L’Escala. We’ve been here at least ... read more

Not a good forecast for the day, lots of cloud and a few spots of rain and that’s what we got. No complaints, we’ve done fantastically well with the weather this trip so far. So a lazy Saturday. Had to check that as we often forget what day of the week it is. Lots of books to read in this Tandy and, heaven forbid we should run out, can always download more via Amazon Kindle which I’ve discovered does work over its 3g even without wifi. We had lunch at the campsite bar. An indulgence. Patatas Fritas. Had some perfectly good healthier options in the Tandy fridge but sometimes nothing but chips will do. We walked them off along the beach. Nothing like a walk on sand for creaky knees, far better than any medication. The ... read more

Rain was forecast for early morning so Bob packed the awning away before we went to bed but the rain had not appeared when we left though the sky was pretty dark. Spent a restless night plagued by the mossie bites we’ve collected. Small mossies but with a deadly bite. Managed to get some water into Tandy before we left. Not easy, only tap apart from sanitaire sinks is right at the campsite entrance and even then badly positioned for actual use. Though the campsite is brilliantly located for visiting Arles and has a lovely pool it is sadly lacking in all facilities connected with water. Really more important to build that second sanitaire block than the water slide methinks. The odd drinking water tap somewhere near to the pitches could come in handy to. Off ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Marseille September 15th 2016

Weather today was glorious again after last night’s violent storm (which knocked our electric off). Now cooler though, nearer 24 than 30 and set to stay that way for lots more days. Lovely. Never thought much about Marseille except as a place to avoid driving through which we’ve had to do twice. The guide book didn’t tell us much so our trip today was a rather lovely surprise. We caught the train from Arles station - €30 return for both of us which is a pretty good price as it’s at least 50 miles to Marseille. Train took 45 minutes with only 2 stops, one at the airport and then we were in the centre of this enormous very cosmopolitan city. We had no idea what to expect and no map and never did find a ... read more

We’ve been to the Camargue before but never to Arles so an obvious place to visit on this trip. According to the forecast, subsequently proved correct, this is the last day of this fantastic hot dry weather. Been very little rain here in Southern France since May. Didn’t want to waste the sunshine so took the tolled motorways all the way from Cannes to Arles so we got there quicker. It’s a lovely run, especially along the Provencal which follows the coastline but well away from it. We recognized Le Rocher de Roquebrun as we’ve stopped at Roquebrun sur Argens a couple of times. Changed motorways to L’autoroute du Soleil for a while then turned West towards Arles. Weather sure enough was glorious so once at the campsite we had a swim in the lovely big ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Cannes September 12th 2016

Today we turned left when we came to the seafront and can now safely report that we have “Done Cannes”. Not been here before though we’ve been along most of the south coast of France at one time or another. No doubt that the best, indeed the only way to get along this coast is on 2 wheels. Traffic jam ? Not on a scooter which is narrow enough to zip along the outside of the queue. We rode right along the bay and considered stopping for a swim but decided against. I was very suitably attired for a scooter ride and a sea swim in my costume (as a sun top) and shorts but once wet…… so we decided to wait. We hit a real traffic jam as we went past the old port as ... read more

Kisbee came out of the garage today and was very excited as we were going to “see the sea”. Kisbee had a problem starting again today as there is something amiss with the mixture, which a recent return to the garage should have sorted but obviously hasn’t. Fortunately Kisbee was as keen as we were to be off so after some gentle persuasion we were on our way. Out of the campsite, up the hill, down to the sea and then right turn for Theoule-sur-mer a couple of miles up and along and down this stunningly scenic coastal road. Lovely spot. Visited Theoule several years ago without swimming stuff and have wanted to swim here since. I can tell you that it was every bit as good as I expected. So good that I went in ... read more
