So, arriving in KL was hectic! The bus dropped everyone off amidst lots of other big buses, all with very loud engines running. And it was right on a really busy road too. Plus, a bloody hot day again! We went to a hostel recommended by Jenna and it was a bit of a hot sweaty mission, only to find out the room was 70 Ringitt which was heaps compared to the 35 we had previously paid (turns out, 70 is more like average). So we went to another, but that was only 65 only we were too knackered to continue looking, so we settled. Room wasn't great, bed sheet was stained, no sheet to go over you, no towels or anything. Plus, it turned out to be right over a really noisy bar! Bed was ... read more

So, on Wednesday we journeyed to Malaysia. It was a very nice coach - comfortable air-con journey! As soon as we crossed the boarder there were cows and goats just rocking about at the side of the road! When we arrived in Melaka the heat was intense! Less humid than Singapore but it felt hotter. We got on a local bus to take us into town. It was a total rattletrap and was packed full - we had backpacks on knees. Made for one sweaty journey! Arriving in the town square we realised Malaysia was going to be totally different to Singapore! Now we really felt like we were abroad! There were taxi/trishaw drivers everywhere shouting at us trying to get our business and monks too! Although they didn't shout. Melaka was a real preserved historical ... read more

We got up really late yesterday due to being thoroughly knackered from our long day at the zoo. We headed to the bit that sells bus tickets to book tickets to go to Melaka on Wednesday! Mission completed, we headed back towards home and stopped by a place for lunch that has had massive queues of locals when we were going the other way. We were a bit scared as there was no English, and we ordered something called 'clay pot chicken'. It was a very very cool dish and the waitress + random local helped us out with how you're meant to eat it. We ate the whole thing with with chopsticks, check us! In the evening we popped into the Raffles Hotel for a Singapore Sling at the outrageous price of $22 (about 8 ... read more

We have had the best couple of days! On Monday we went to Sentosa island on the cable car. Pricey, but cool. The island is kinda like a theme park, but without the rides. You know - that fake feeling to everything, but it was done really nicely and was very pretty. Not half as tacky as I was expecting. And it had great views over to the city, so we got an idea of what it looked like from a bit of a distance, which you need to get a idea of it. We wandered about and then decided to go on the luge - kinda like the toboggan at Llandudno but its not in a track but rather a kindof purpose built road. So we razzed down feeling like proper kida but having a ... read more

Hello! We have arrived! Our plane got in at 6am this morning. The flight was fine, but we didn;t manage to get any sleep. I can't sleep sitting up. Singapore Airlines were fine, but not quite up to Emirates standards! Had my first taste of Asian foor for 'breakfast' on the plane. Was some spicy noodle thing! Very weird. It was still pitch dark when we arrived, it appears it both gets light and dark at 7. We got the MRT (like the metrolink) to where our hotel is - Bugis (check out our awsome navigational skills) and then also found the hotel itself. Well done us. We were too early to check in but they let us use the communal shower, which felt great at first, but by the time I was dressed I was ... read more

So, we've packed in our jobs (well, Mike did at least, my contract just came to an end), we've moved out of our our house of 3 years and now we are in Sale at Mum and Dad's house poised and ready for the off! The backpacks are packed, we've even checked in for our flight to Singapore online! It's a bit weird, it's still not really real but here we go anyway. First thing tomorrow morning Mike's Mum & Dad are coming down to take us to the airport (mine are in New Zealand, I don't just have lazy parents) and then off we fly to Singapore! We get in early Sat morning Singapore time, or late Friday night UK time and we might even update this then, just because the internet is free in ... read more
