wine ice cream...yum! Hope you guys enjoyed Cafayate. I loved the Torrontés and touring the wineries. And I thought the wine ice cream was pretty tasty.
Empanadas OK - I loved Salta and I think Kevyn mentioned our time there - hopefully she mentioned the hostel we stayed at that is just south of the main east / west road. Great place.
But the important thing is Empanadas. So go back to the "Red Church"just a few blocks off the main square to the west. Caddy corner to that (NW corner) is a small empanada shop that has 2-3 tables - they are the best we had in all of northern Argentina and the hot sauce is great as well - a rare thing.
You are in a great part of the country enjoy!!!!!!! We know of a great sketchy bungee jumping place if you need to fly.... Merry Christmas and have a blast.
Happy Holidays!!!!!!!!!! Hi there! - hope you have something special planned for your holiday celebration! I am saving your presents until you return!! You are in my thoughts often, I send my love and joy to you especially at xmas! Loves ya, MOM
PS My friend Lisa and her family are leaving for SoAmer Dec 30th, and will be there for 5 months (working on a volunteer project), I am going to give her your blog email to see if you are ever close to each other - she knew you when you were little Oliver, her kids are pre-teen age
Empanadas for Christmas We totally enjoyed Salta! Hope you guys are having fun. We rented a car there and drove to Cachi and Cafayate...one of our better travel decisions. If I recall it wasn't too expensive and definitely the best way to see that area of the country. If you go to Quilmes, check out the Museo Pachamama...pretty cool. You can read our blog from that area if you want. http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Argentina/Salta/Cafayate/blog-131869.html
Safe and FUN travels to you both!!!
nightmares We really got very little sleep in Vilcabamba due to the darn things, so yes, I would say a net would be a good idea. Most places we haven´t had any issue with them, but in this town (and Quito) you might drag one along.
oh heck yeahs! So excited for you guys and to live vicariously through your travels!! Be safe and I look forward to seeing and hearing all about it!! -KJ
hello! Hi you two, the photos are great, (love the old boat and those birds are beautiful) how long will you be Ecuador? I have a friend, Lisa Schmidter who is leaving with her family on Dec 30 to head to Ecuador, and then the Galopodos (spelling) Islands for 5.5 months, they will be helping a group, doing volunteer work on the Islands, she wondered if they could meet up with you? they have traveled extensively in Central and South America, they spend part of each winter there, home school their kids so it works well for them (they have 3 school age girls). They ususally get involved in some volunteer project usually with a green or humanitarian bent to it. Lisa is super cool, don't know her husband Chris that well. I spent two and half hours in her hot tub with Molly too and it was below zero, but still very comfortable because the hot tub was soooooooooooo hot!
But how are you guys, weren't you going to do a volunteer project in Ecuador? How is that going?
Oliver did you ever get cards or something to give/send to those you two got for Xmas? Someway to notify them, that the presents are coming later....or whatever you planned for that?
We are finally getting some winter here, last few days its been 10 to 15 below at night, and about the same above during the day. Only a small amount of snow on the ground, and the house I built for the goats collasped with the first 1/2 inch of snow!! :( So I will have to change that accordingly.
Cats and dogs doing well.
Elijah is doing a swing at Beluga, so will not be home for Thanksgiving, but hopefully for Xmas.
Still working to get my heater fixed on the truck, today should do it, and it will be so nice..........I brought myself a new winter coat, I don't remember when I did that last, but I really needed one!! That little green one was just to thin for real cold, even with my vest under it.
I am doing well myself, and hope this finds both you well and enjoying your adventure. Take care and enjoy, Love MOM/Lee
YEA!!! Fun, fun, fun! Sara HB is moving to Ecuador in December!! We think you all should just stay down there and we'll come visit! Be smart, Be safe, Be happy! Chao

oh dear oliver, i think the gods are intervening so that you never make it up paragliding: twice now the wind dies on your turn. Or maybe its just a sign you need to be less of a gentleman next time and push your way to hte front. :)
glad you guys got the blog up, hope you do more entries than we managed to do
get with the picture Hey, Tell Oliver, mother says get to work on this blog. We want pictures. You've been gone almost a month. Don't keep us in suspence. Love you.
Envy I'm missing you already and you haven't taken off yet. Hope there hasn't been any more snow since last night. We got heavy frost and very slick roads. You are flying into summer. What fun. Love you bunches.
Two recent college graduates eschewing all things responsible and heading off to parts unknown (and possibly parasite ridden)for three, count 'em, THREE months. Follow along, dear reader, from your arm chair or desk chair, and we’ll see what there is to be seen!
