Pakistan Zindabad! Hi, i've not finished reading the blog yet but I can't help but comment. I'm glad that you guys actually ignored the media generated hype about terrorism and went to see it for yourself. I am a pakistani myself, living in UK and I visit pakistan regularly. As Ehsan mentioned in his comments, these power hungry terrorists were breed by the west for their own needs (I wouldn't call them islamic militans since anyone who kills or is involved in killing innocent people is not a muslim. That is not what islam teaches. Islam was spread through love, respect and forgiveness, for even the worst of enemies)
The world is living in a bubbles created by the media and politicians. There’s a funny joke about this in Pakistan. An indian minister's wife gave birth to a baby so in his press conference the minister followed the standard procedure and gave a statement saying "I am certain Pakistani agents are responsible for this” :P no offence to indian people, i have many indian friends here and we get along just fine...maybe because they have met a real pakistani :)
Us pakistani's promote love peace and harmony for everyone and welcome people to come witness the natural beauty, culture, food and most of all our hospitality.

Just like it is! Hi, Just got back from a motorcycle trip to India from the UK. Travelled the same route through Iran and Pakistan, your report just brings a big smile to my face, been there, seen that, but how you guys can do it on a bicycle-wow! But the sand drifts cause a motorbike more problems maybe? My mate got sick and the police looked after us in Nochki Police Station and took him to hospital. Our armed Police Escorts were always OK, except their picks up trucks were too slow for our 1000cc bikes. We had the same experiance of 'Head of Inteligence' interviews. Some times, when the Police did not have vehicles, one armed officer would ride pillion with me, and as we passed a village he would point his AK47 and shout 'Taliban. Taliban'. I would shout back, 'OK, I'm on holiday', and so it went on for miles. You can see some of my photo's on : http://deserttraveller.blogspot.com/
Pleiku I was in the US Air Force and was stationed in Pleiku from May of 1968 until May of 1969, at the height of the war.
But I have many fond memories of my year there, and would share some with you, if interested.
Thanks for your blog, it is very interesting.
:) Dear Erika and Robin;
I hope everything goes well during your journey. Hope to see you a time again. Baris

Vulgar I much enjoy reading your story as me and my wife have visited those Eastern European countries on bikes for many years and are going back to Ukraina and Romania visiting some of the places you´ve mentioned. But your Greek freind´s mentioning that Bulgar comes from Vulgar, however funny it sounds, is not true, it comes from the Christian Turks that lived near river Volga. Should you ever visit Scandinavia you are welcome to stay here in the centre of Copenhagen, whether we are at home or not. Biking greetings, Ole
Rock-throwing kids Dear Erika and Robin:
I enjoyed reading this post. I'm in Van, having come the opposite way from Dog Biscuit to Van. I've had stone-throwing and begging kids plaguing me like horseflies for days, since Ani. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a child-beating stick to carry for such occasions!
We are Erika and Robin from Scotland and in April 2005 we quit our jobs and set off to cycle from Scotland to İstanbul.
We reached İstanbul in October 2005 having discovered that cycling truly is the best way to travel and so decided to keep going beyond the Bosphorous......
We had never cycled any long distance before but had been wanting to travel for a long time and had finally saved enough and realised ıf we didn't set off now we never would. We decided cycling would be the best form of transport as we wanted to learn more about the countries and people we passed through at a s... full info
