The fresco... Hello!
I am glad Romania was not a bad surprise for you and you enjoyed the visit. Just a quick note regarding the "Romanians vs. Barbarians? torture fresco" and your comments: as you can see that is a scene depicting Moslim warriors (they look like Ottoman Janissaires) spearing and beheading Christian martyrs/saints (the latter have haloes around their heads, even if severed). During the 15th century the Ottoman Empire was a great menace for the Christian Eastern Europe...
A comment Dear Erika & Robin,
Am an avid cyclist and try tour round India on my bike. I love reading your travel accounts and get a lot of information before starting on a tour. Just wanted to point out that the word "Paki" on your blog may not go down well with the Pakistanies. However, as for the railways were built by the British for their own benifit for moving troops and supplies round the vast country.
thank you for best travel blog ever! hi, i just wanted to tell you that your cycling blog is best ever after reading dozens of them! i am planning to cycle around the world with my girlfriend and she loves your blog as well, and why not as your text was superbly written and it always reflected your love of nature. you know, i have read too many cycling blogs of some sad lost young men with bikes out there, and i almost loose my will to live after reading them. after reading you i always viberate positive energy! so thank you so much for your wonderful text and pics - which still after one year or so keeps inspiring us! Turo & Marja (from Finland)
Well wishes Hope you two are still doing well, its been a year since a blog entry, i must say thank you for making your travels public, i stumbled upon it when doing some research on Afghanistan. Your blog has helped me get through the 9-5 of my all too civilized life.
Wild Lover Hi iiiiiiiiiiii
Life is Journey. so enjoy it. with the nature that god gifted us.
i like your travelling exprience that you made ranthambhore national park
you guys rock! I stumbled upon your blog while searching google for the distance on foot between Aqaba and Cairo. I'm watching "Lawrence of Arabia" here in San Diego, California. You two are now my heroes. officially. I thought "long way round" was unbelievably gutsy. It's nothing compared to what you two are doing. My husband has a spinal injury, but surgery after surgery we keep saying we'll take one big fabulous trip when his back feels stronger and we can enjoy life again. You've inspired me to do something that scares us, something epic, something we'll remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you. Stay strong, love each other and keep on pedaling!
heart breaking look back Jallian wala bhag we came across the most brutal attack on theunarmed people gathetred at the place. our mind awakens with patriotic spirit and we can feel how precious freedom is. even if utham sigh has killed dyer .we are not satisfied with that .
my take on the travelogue hi Erika Bird and Robin Searle...though i liked ur style of writing here, you seemed to have left with some half baked impressions of Assam and its people.... i am an Assamese by the way.... i dunno how you conjured up something like...Indian men hanging around with tribal chicks, if you like, in the island middle of Bramhaputra...Assamese people having a ganja plantation handy by their house for ready use..he he... but it just seems all too absurd to make such opinionated comments through wht you've seen during your short cycling expedition...we are the way we are because we are not perturbed by what baggage you foreigners bring with you...you are right in saying that the people are nice here and they mind their own business on the streets unlike many parts of India...but you also can't say other illogical stuff...those girls are Assamese as well and not some hill tribe easy chicks...we are a proud people and not like some yunk ganja inhaling wild tribe...u gotta know us well before commenting..cheers...
We are Erika and Robin from Scotland and in April 2005 we quit our jobs and set off to cycle from Scotland to İstanbul.
We reached İstanbul in October 2005 having discovered that cycling truly is the best way to travel and so decided to keep going beyond the Bosphorous......
We had never cycled any long distance before but had been wanting to travel for a long time and had finally saved enough and realised ıf we didn't set off now we never would. We decided cycling would be the best form of transport as we wanted to learn more about the countries and people we passed through at a s... full info
