MISSING November 21st 2018

On Tuesday, November 13th, Anja and I arrived with the nightbus at 4:30AM from Udaipur to Jodhpur. The bus ride had been quite all right, but we still hadn’t been able to sleep much (it’s always the same with these night buses...). There were some tuk tuks waiting at the bus stop and we didn’t hesitate to take one to our hostel, the Madpackers hostel. Arriving there, they tuk tuk driver told us that they don’t have 24h reception and, indeed, they front door was closed... We were very tired and not thinking clearly, so, instead of just checking and knocking on the door, we accepted to driver’s suggestion to drive us to the city center where it would be easier and safer to wait for morning. That turned out to be a big mistake : ... read more

Diese Stadt ... read more

MISSING November 13th 2018

On November 5th, I arrived around 5PM in Mumbai, after a week in Goa where I had attended the World Congress of the Junior Chamber International. My friend Anja from Belgium joined me in Mumbai for a 3 weeks backpacking trip across India. She arrived very late that night because she had had some problems with her flight. We stayed at the Basti - Backpackers Hostel. The hostel in general was quite okay but the staff was less than helpful : only 1 person spoke some English and they weren’t any help in planing our trip. That was one of the reasons of our misery to come... The next morning, we spent planning our trip and we found that our second stop, Aurangabad, was going to be quite difficult. It is far away from everything and ... read more

I left Kima on Thursday, October 25th, with a bus to Nairobi where I arrived at 6PM. My friend Nathalie from Manchester was in Nairobi and I had booked a room in the same hostel as she and her friend Kate, so that I would be able to spend one evening with her. I was very happy to see her and I had been looking forward to this for a long time. The only thing I regretted in Kima was not having any friends. Most adults were friendly, but nobody really talked to me or tried to befriend me ; so, I mostly stayed alone and I was a bit lonely sometimes. This enhanced my wish to see Nathalie a lot! ^_^ We stayed at the Wildebeest Hostel, close to the Nairobi national park. It was ... read more

MISSING October 27th 2018

I arrived in Kenya on Monday 1st of October and I spent the first day in the capital, Nairobi. I must say, it’s not a nice city. It’s very big, dirty and there is not much to see except for the area around the parliament. There, it’s quite nice, but in half a day, you have seen everything. I was lucky that a few weeks earlier I had met Vida from Sweden and his girlfriend Ana from Spain during a festival in Uganda and they had invited me to join them that night. Vida’s colleague, Myles, was celebrating his birthday and, so, about 20 people – almost all working for the UN – had assembled that night and we went to a Japanese/Korean place for dinner. It was a very nice evening ! Even if Nairobi ... read more

MISSING September 23rd 2018

On Wednesday, August 29th, I arrived to Uganda. First, I spent a couple of days in Entebbe at the ViaVia hostel to relax and work for my university in Belgium. I thought there might be something to do or to see in Entebbe, but, honestly, there wasn’t. You could do a couple of excursions, like going to animal shelters or do a boat trip on the Victoria Lake, but it was all super expensive and I really didn’t want to spend my money on things that didn’t sound very interesting. So, I spent my time in the hostel that was located in a beautiful green area with a nice view. They had a very good restaurant and I enjoyed good food and Wi-Fi after one month in Togo with rather bad food and no Wi-Fi. The ... read more

MISSING September 22nd 2018

On Sunday, September 9th, I was picked up at my hostel by Sam, the director of UPA (Uganda Pioneers’ Association), where I would volunteer for the next 3 weeks. UPA is an NGO that started in 1989 and that organizes lots of community projects, work camps and international exchanges. Their motto is “Together we shape the future” and they have lots of local branches all throughout Uganda. They do lots of projects to sensitize people about HIV, gender equality, democracy and peace building.I had applied for a project called “International work camp on farming and life skill training in Gulu district”, organized by the local UPA branch of Gulu. Gulu is the biggest city in northern Uganda and it’s an area that had been highly affected by the rebels in Uganda until 2002. The ... read more

Africa August 29th 2018

On Monday, July 30, I arrived in Togo where I would spend the next month discovering the country and doing 3 weeks of volunteering. The first 3 days, I spent in a hotel complex at the beach, because I needed a few days of rest after my journey from South America (Ecuador) to Africa (Togo). I was supposed to be picked up at the hotel by a member of Astovot, the local organization where I was to do my volunteering, on Wednesday, but I waited all day long in vain for anybody to show up… So, in the end, I stayed at the hotel until Thursday morning. I left the hotel only once and that was to get cash at the ATM. It was a very scary experience because of several factors : 1) they don’t ... read more
