Bernie & Trevor

Back in July 2011, Trevor & I started our life time dream of travelling the world....we decided back in Febuary 2011 to sell everything back in Australia after being in business for 10 years and working hard to achieve our goal, our dream of travel. We started our original 6 week holiday in Canada, Alaska & Los Vegas before heading to Mexico to do a TELF coarse in Chiapa de Corzo, Mexico. Here we spent 11 months, leaving in July 2012 returning back to Australia for 3 weeks to see friends & family and then in August 2012 starting our adventure again in El Salavador......

Pamplona. Friday 28th Dec 2012 We left Cucuta at 7.30 on a bus for Pamplona where we had planed to stay the night. The night before Bernie asked how long would it take to get from Merida to Pamplona. I did my lonely planet calculation added an hour for the border and said 9 hours. Unfortunately with the traffic, waiting in lines and an accident we took 13 1/2. We stayed at hotel Ursua for 2 nights. Sat 29th Dec 2012. The building hotel Ursua is over 400 years old and has been a hotel for more than a 100 years. It was built by the founder of Pamplona. His name was Captain Pedro De Ursua. The huge room we were in, was a family room and has a double bed and 4 single beds, with ... read more

Cabo de la Vela to Coro. Monday 17th Dec 2012. We left Maicao for the 12 km drive to the border at 9am via a Por Puesto ( very old ,fallen to pieces taxi car). They drop you off at the border and you go thrugh immigration to get your Colombian exit stamp. Then we walked about 50 metres to get our Venezuelan entry stamp. Meanwhile our taxi drove along side us. After getting our entry stamp we hopped into the taxi and together we drove through the checkpoint. That easy. This takes all of 30 min or less depending on the line up. Then we drove for 2.5 hours to Maracaibo, but don't put your passport away. 5 passport checks later arriving in Maracaibo. Here we got dropped off at the bus terminal and get ... read more

Mexico Adventure September 2011 to July 2012 An introduction of the beginning: We ask ourselves how we spent so much time here in Mexico, considering we had only 1 month of pre-arranged commitment in Chiapas de Corzo which is in the state of Chiapas. Prior to leaving Australia we decided to do a TEFL course so we had something else to fall back on whilst travelling the world, so this in mind lead us to Mexico for the month of September it was bums up & heads down learning how to teach English, and hopefully receive a certificate that is world-wide recognized. This we passed!! Thanks to Joanna @ Dunham Institute in Chiapas de Corzo… A must watch video: Los Parachicos in Chiapa de Corzo (Chiapas, Mexico) - YouTube url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj38... read more

From Cahuita to David Saturday 17th Nov 2012 After coffee and breakfast we left (8am) on the bus to the border of Costa Rica & Panama at Sixaola some 52 km away. Arriving there at 10am, I got Bernies backpack out from the locker under the bus and helped her to put it on, as I was getting my backpack out, the bus driver took off leaving me to wrench my pack out onto the ground. The driver still didn't stop and took off down the road with the door still open in the air. After that we headed to immigration standing in line for about 15 mins. Once we got passports stamped for exit we walked along the bridge into the land of Panama. I gave the Panamanian immigration our passports only to get a ... read more
