Have a super time! Ann, so good to hear you are all right and up for travels again. Love reading your blog. Remember we met you at the AT Biennial and someday plan to do the Coast to Coast trail. Sooner than that, we have a trip to Alaska coming up the end of August. We booked with Backroads for a multi-sport vacation which includes kayaking, hiking and safari. After that, we will take the train back to Anchorage from Fairbanks and rent an RV for about 8 days. Right now, we plan to head to the Kenai Pennisula for most of that time. So, bottom line, I will be very interested in your travels in Alaska. Keep the blog a comin!! Have a super trip!! ;-)
Oregon Bach festival I'll be following along as I am curious about Alaska ferries but I think you are in Eugene for the Bach festival. Check it out if you have time
Eugene I'm in Eugene for the Track and Field Olympic Trials. The good performances of the festival while I'm here conflict with the trials. it sounds great.
Your first blog on the Alaska adventure I will hope to follow this, but occasionall reminders on FB never hurt. Will need to go back to read up on your India trip. You're having quite a year, and it isn't even quite half over!
Alaska State Ferry I went from Prince Rupert, BC to Skagway, AK on the state ferry, and I loved it. Since it went through the Tongas National Forest, there was a ranger on board who gave lectures and took us on expeditions looking for berries in Ketchikan, counting eagles in the narrow passage out to Sitka, and watching whales cavort next to the boat. The ferry was very large, with staterooms for sleeping, if you want, or lounge chairs out on the deck under heater to sleep in your sleeping bag. There was a large restaurant or snack bars for food. And, as you know, it was a whole lot cheaper than the alternative.
Awesome Ann! You are amazing Ann! I have always been proud of you and considered myself lucky to have you for a friend, but even more so now. I love your spirit and your enthusiasm for the world around you. You don't just see the many places you visit but you experience all they have to offer. And now you don't even let your health hold you back. I'm so impressed. And I'm so thankful you are ok. We need to get together when you get back. Take care and have fun on your trip. Love you.
Thank You So Much + A Question Thank you so much for your thoughts! I am heading out on this same tour in just 4 weeks, on April 18, and am kind of anxious as a solo traveller who hasn't been many places. I've been doing a lot of research and have answered some pressing questions, but one remains: Given all that is paid for by OAT, how much spending money would you recommend I bring, for meals, sundries, etc.? I'm not a shopper and am thinking I'll just bring cash -- ATMs don't appeal to me. But you could advise me about that too! So, what do you think? (Hoping I'm not insane for deciding to go on this tour by myself!)
Answers I did this tour by myself and it's absolutely no problem....there were 3 of us who didn't know anyone else but all 15 (4 couples and 7 singles) all go along very well! I spent less than $300 on meals, drinks and misc. items. I changed my cash at the airport and at a couple of hotels....never used an ATM. I did use my credit card for a few clothing purchases. Most times when a meal wasn't included, we all had plenty to eat in the two meals that were provided so only had a snack if anything. Hope this helps. It was a great trip. (Your weather will be warmer than when I was there...be prepared!)
Great Blog!! Annie, thanks for sharing your Coast to Coast adventure with us. We learned a lot and are looking forward to doing it ourselves some day soon. When you get a chance, we do have some questions for you. Right now, we are off to visit our daughter in British Columbia, Canada. We will try to connect with you when we return. Again, thanks for sharing!
Like your blog Hi, I've enjoyed following your travels. I will be taking a somewhat gentler coast-to-coast walk next week, from Arnside to Saltburn-by-the-Sea. I was wondering if you could let me know what you took with you that was really useful, anything you didn't have with you but wish you did, and what items you brought that weren't necessary. Thanks!
Amazing! Ann: I read your blog each day with interest. I can't believe what an amazing trip you are having! The pictures are beautiful and I am eager to see the rest. I also admit that there is no way in hell that I could manage this trip. You should be very proud of yourself. Hugs.
This looks totally awesome Ann! I have no doubt you will have not trouble completing! It will be fun to travel along with you via the blog, although even more fun to be walking with you.
I love to travel and am working hard on my bucket list, but I'm not making much of a dent because I keep adding to it.
My first blog was my Coast to Coast England walk in the summer of 2015, and I have vowed to blog each trip that I take in the future. I wish I had done blogs for previous trips to New Zealand, Chile/Argentina/Easter Island, Peru, Nepal/Bhutan and Costa Rica. It was so much easier to organize my photos with my daily blog to follow! I always thought I'd remember everything when I looked at my pictures, but it's amazing how easy it is to forget details at the end of a lon... full info
