Lisa

My name is Lisa and I am married to Steve. We have one adult daughter, Amethyst, who lives in Chicago. We don't really consider ourselves empty nesters because we have four fur babies, 2 dachshunds named Max and Wicked Pete, a female pit bull named Shelby and one very LOUD Bengel cat who is very affectionate so he is named Romeo.

We are avid motorcycle enthusiasts and have been encouraged to blog because our family and friends tell us we are hilarious when we tell the stories about our adventures.

Now I am not sure that the stories will translate as well in writing but since so many people think we have funny and crazy stories we thought we would share them with you. I hope you enjoy them!

Final Day 514 Miles today 7 hours on the road Total Miles: 2300 round trip The Best Western hotel had a comfortable bed and pillows and the continental breakfast was ok. I would give the hotel 4 motorcyles. It had towels next to the desk for wiping down your bike because it is located right next to the Harley Davidson store so they think about bike convienence. However, Steve enquired about a railroad discount and the clerk/manager said no because UPRR does not stay there. What a bunch of crap. Low on vacation funds and tired of the road, we left Alberta Lea at 8:15 a.m. and at about 8:45 a.m. ran into rain. We did not have our rain suits on so we got pretty wet, Steve decided to pull over under a bridge so ... read more

Day 7 Total miles 514 miles. Long journey home today, we stopped overnight in Alberta Lea, Minnesota. We were on the road for 12 hours so we were very glad to see our hotel room. We ate at the Applebees, service was slow, so I give that 3 motorcycless but the food was good, 4 motorcycles. We did not take any pictures today as the route we took is the same as the way to Rapid City. Now that I figured out how to get pictures on the site I will add the pictures from the first few days when I get back home and have a faster interenet service. We are staying at a Best Western, very clean and friendly staff. I will rate it after we sleep here and have our continental breakfast. I ... read more

Day 6 15 miles This is our last day in Rapid City, SD, part of me is very sad because it is so beautiful here but I miss my fur babies so much I can't wait to see them all. We decided to stay in Rapid City for the day, we were going to go to Deadwood again but since we have a 12 hour ride on Friday we thought we would give our old and tired bodies a rest. Today I rode on the back of Steve's bike for the short rides we took around town. I don't do this much but it was kind of nice because I got to see more things. We ate at the hotel because we did not want to get dressed just to eat out and then come back ... read more

Day 5 147 miles Today we decided to ride south to Hot Springs. We drove down La Crosse Street to Omaha street, let me tell you La Crosse street is a very dangerous street for motorcycles. Every time we ride it we are almost hit and today a run away grocery cart darted right out in front of me, where it came from I have know idea. Just as I was going around the cart and got back into the right lane the care ahead hit their brakes and I had to go around them, jeepers creepers we risk life and limb just to leave town. We took Main street to Jackson road to Sheridan Lake Road. This is a beautiful back road to Hwy 385 and the lake area is gorgeous. They have campgrounds their ... read more

Day 4 Miles: 143 Well it is day 4 and Steve and I have not killed each other, actually we haven't argued much, SD must agree with us. We are having a great time, it is so beautiful here that every where you look is a view. What a great place to visit. Today we ate breakfast in our room because we had left over steak and fruit. If you remember from last night the food ordered from the hotel was not great but it is here and we were hungry. We decided to take the North Hills roads today to head to Sturgis, the Holy Grail to Harley riders. We started up on Hwy 44 West and then turned right onto Nemo road which went into Vanocker Canyon. All I can say is OMG, for ... read more

68 miles A beautiful day in Rapid City SD. Bright and sunny but somewhat cool with 50 degrees outside. The bed at the Hilton was wonderful but why do hotels use the incredible soft pillows? They kill my neck. We decided to eat at Denny's right near our hotel and got on the bikes. I started mine and it ran for about a minute and then stopped running. Now on my bike I always have to use the choke to start it and keep it running for a little while so Steve accused me of flooding it but I told him I think I was out of gas. I checked my tanks and sure enough, empty. This means I literally rode in on fumes. Fortunately, I hit reserve and was able to get to a gas ... read more

Total Miles: 341 Total Time: 12 hours We started out this morning at 8:30 a.m. and it was sunny, warm, humid. Today was the day of stops, so even though we did not travel as far yesterday it took just as long. We travled along I-90 W and stopped at a rest stop to take off our coats and get some tourist information. By the way, South Dakota has got to be one of the most windy states I have ridden in, again we were dealing with strong winds. We drove to Corn Palace which is listed in the 1000 Things to Do Before you Die book. It was interesting and we enjoyed looking at the pictures of years back. We purchased a few items to remember our stop and went on our way. The problem ... read more

Our trip started at 7:30 a.m. in Appleton WI. It was bright and blue skies with a light wind, perfect day for riding. We took Hwy 96 to Hwy 76 to Hwy 10 until Waupaca to Hwy 22 where we got off onto Hwy 21. We reached Adams/Friendship WI and at this point we had gone 103 miles and it was 9:30 am and I felt it was the right time to eat. For those of you who don't know this about me when I get hungry I get extremel cranky so Steve knows that when I say I am hungry we need to eat pronto! We stopped in Adams/Friendship because we lived in there for a year so we know the best places to eat there. The restaurant called Hwy 21/13 Cafe located on Hwy ... read more

It is now 4:19 a.m. and as usual I can't sleep because I am very excited about our trip. Steve is of course sleeping, he could sleep through a tornado! We leave Wisconsin this morning on our two motorcyles and are heading to Sioux Falls, South Dakota by tonight. Steve has a 1999 HD Road Glide and I have a 1996 HD Spring Softail, Badboy. It is suppose to be in the 90s for temps so hydration will be key. We will be taking pictures and video so hopefully you will get the whole experience of our trip. The first portion will take approximately 10-12 hours and we are traveling 465 miles. Stay posted as the adventure begins!!!... read more
