This could be Rotterdam.... I went to Rotterdam for a while on the way to seeing Frederike in Leiden. There is a lot of construction going on around the train station, and all over town, so first impressions not that good! But it got much better after I had a chinese food snack for lunch in China Town, and went for a walk. I walked through a lot of parks and towards the river. Some of the buildings in Rotterdam are fabulous, very modern, slick and colourful. And the bridge across the river adds to the modern feel. Lovely Lille. I went to Lille on my way to Bruges, which I think was not the best thing to do after visiting Paris; the town was pretty but I felt it had no energy. The very centre of the town, around the main square, was lovely and had lovely buildings but it was very small, so after wandering around a bit in other streets there was hardly anyone around! I found a tapas bar for lunch which was nice but bit expensive for what it was, then went to find the citadel that was marked on the map. It was a big star shape and looked like a nice park. Hello everyone sorry for the wait I've had an insanely busy 4 days in Paris! Well as soon as I got off the train my couchsurfing host Aurelien met me and we were straight to the bar - huge bag and all - to meet his two friends Jude and Frankk, and drink a mojito! I knew as soon as I met Aurelien that all my fears were pointless, he is a fantastic host, brilliant at English, and has given me so much advice about Paris - especially the metro which is very confusing - I could not have asked for better! So in the morning - slightly hungover - I hit the streets of Paris, and promptly found myself lost in a district of Paris called Bercy, which is very pretty and lovely to wander ... read more
