Dateline April 6, Georgetown, Grand Cayman Today is a shore day or to be more precise it is a day of swimming with the Sting Rays and snorkeling a beautiful reef. We headed out at 8:15 for the theatre where we would meet up with other passengers heading in the same direction. We glanced down at our tickets and notice that they say you must be between the ages of 8 and 70 to go. What the heck! 70? 70? Forget it, we are going. So… fortunately no one asks us anything and after joining our group we head for the tender to take us in to shore. What a crock, 70! Anyway LOL, ah my, we tender in and walk about a block to the small bus that is waiting for us. Everyone jumps on ... read more

Ft. Lauderdale, 88 degrees and 18 seconds Ft. Lauderdale is pretty, humid and welcome after winging from the west coast since early this morning. Up at 3:30am, by 4 we were ready to hail our Lyft driver. Rodan was there within 10 minutes and picked us up just outside the gates to our community. 20 minutes later we are in the pre-check line, yea, no one in line, and can smell the Starbucks beckoning to us from down the concourse. Handing our boarding passes to the TSA person, the little buzzer goes off…the scanner can’t read our passes, they have printed out too small. What? Okay…back to American ticketing to re-print our passes. This time they scan perfectly and caffeine is within sight. A few bumps getting into and out of Dallas. an uneventful trip. At ... read more

The Real Reason we went to Reno About a month ago we were in Sacramento and there were gigantic billboards along the road telling us that “The Golden Boys” were going to have a concert in Reno. Now, some of you may not be old enough to know who these guys are but… my poor husband has heard the story of “my bedroom” when I was 16-17 years old many times… what does my bedroom have to do with anything? Well, its 1963 I’m living in Sacramento, California and going to school at Bella Vista High in Fair Oaks. I read “Teen” magazine and am “in love” with Fabian. Who is that you ask... well only the cutest guy ever and a Teen Idol. Every time I would get a Teen magazine I would tear out ... read more

Train to Sacramento, over Donner Pass and into Reno, Nevada 6:15 am and we're having coffee in the pitch black, in the car, in a parking lot off the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Fresno, California. I am crying. At 6 am Cope dropped me off at the front door of the train station and waited, while I ran in to get a parking permit so we could leave the car in the fenced parking lot next to the station. Made my way across the dimly lit exterior of the building and into the brightly lit waiting room. Lots of folks in line… old, young, those who looked more affluent and those who looked less so. Looked like the united nations of train depots. Long snaking line to get to the ticket agents but it was ... read more

Well, our journey has ended and we've been home about a week getting over jet lag ;-) It’s time to bid farewell to the blog trip and remember some of the amazing people who made our trip so special. We’ll never forget… The wonderful trips, vino, cappuccino and special friends that Claudia and Gary allowed us to share with them. But… most importantly we were allowed to get our “cat fix” with the brilliant and cunning, Quigley and experience the fearless Milly, the wall-walking dog. Our well-traveled friends, Sharon and Dave who have made many trips so fun for us, made our time in the British Isles better than ever and to Sharon who was, as always, such a good sport for her “surprise” birthday. And… Dave for all your researc... read more

London, Around the City Our Last Day...oh no! May 25, 2016 We are loving our few days around and about London! We are staying near the Ritz Hotel at the Holiday Inn in the Mayfair district of London….very upscale and posh. The neighborhood is bustling and full of life…lots of traffic, pedestrians, shops and places to snack and eat! We have found a grocery store around the corner and three coffee places within a block. We spend our time wandering the city of London. Dave and his excellent map reading skills really make this part of our visit easy. And, we walk miles and miles. Our first stop today is just a few blocks away, The Faraday Museum. Dave has been wanting to go here as Michael Faraday was one of the people who got him ... read more

Warwick Castle, Stratford on Avon, and Oxford and Hogwarts Infirmary So we once again, from Victoria Coach station, we leave London to head north to Warwick Castle. We’ve heard of this castle but never had an opportunity to visit it. Were we in for a surprise. Warwick is a medieval castle developed from an original built by William the Conqueror in 1068. It is on the River Avon. In most of the castles we’ve visited, we have had to really imagine what it would have been like in its heyday. But not in this one. It is truly a family destination. It is a little like a small theme park. There are tableau's in each room showing what went on there. You can actually go into the dungeon. There is also a Birds of Prey show ... read more

Scotland: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Castles and Edinburgh As we tendered off the cruise ship into the port of Queensferry, we struck up a conversation with a lady and we asked where she was from, and she said “Fresno, California”. She was traveling alone but with a group of 9. The tender went under an incredible railroad bridge that has been designated as a UNESCO World heritage site. We also saw two other suspension bridges, one just under construction, for auto’s traveling into the City of Edinburg. Dave, Sharon and Jean have been to Edinburgh before. So Sharon and Dave decided to do their own walking tour and we decided to do the “Hop On, Hop Off” bus just to get an hour’s tour of the overall city before deciding on what we specially ... read more

Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, and the White Cliffs of Dover We meet up with Sharon and Dave in the lobby of the Holiday Inn in Mayfair and head up the street to the Ritz Hotel to await our bus to Victoria Station. Victoria Station is the main place for all tour busses in London and today we are off to Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, and the White Cliffs of Dover. As we approached Leeds Castle through the countryside, we could see it atop a hill. Leeds Castle has been a Norman stronghold; the private property of six of England’s medieval queens; a palace used by Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon; and an elegant early 20th century retreat for the influential and famous; and in the 21st century, it has become one of ... read more
