So let's just say that a night at the opera just might have spoiled me a bit. I absolutely loved it! Coming from a theatre and music background, just seeing the art come into play was just wonderful to watch. The pit and conductor were magnificent and played spectacularly. I honestly believe that my mouth was open for most of the interlude when the pit was introducing the musical themes to the audience. And I could feel myself smiling whenever they played a piece just right with the staccato notes followed by instant silence at the very beginning of the opera. But let's take it back a few steps and talk about the afternoon leading up to a wonderful performance. Our group had just returned from our visit to the Leather School, which was also just ... read more

We have been in Italy for 10 full days now and it has just been an amazing experience. I am very sad to realize that I only have 11 more days left in this wonderful, amazing country. So, our prompt for this blog post is "What have you learned about yourself?"Honestly, it is very challenging to think about yourself and put into writing what all you have learned within the past 10 days. Do you ever think about something new you learn about yourself within a month? Even that seems challenging to me, but I am going to give it a try. I'm going to try to think of 10 things I have learned about myself throughout my experience in Italy so far, let's go! 1. I am great at following the offline version of Google ... read more

Ciao! The past two days we have been exploring the inner workings and history of Florence. We have toured the Uffizi Museum which houses works by Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Leonardo Da Vinci, among other well known artists. We attended an art exhibition and fashion show last night which showed off newer men's fashions. And today we toured the Innocenti Museum, which was the first ever established orphanage. At the Uffizi, we saw works such as The Birth of Venus by Botticelli, The Adoration of the Magi by Leonardo Da Vinci, the Doni Madonna by Michelangelo, and Madonna with Two Angels by Filippo Lippi while being led on tour by Antonio, the study abroad director here. I loved getting to walk through the halls of the Uffizi and hearing the different tales behind the paintings and sculptures. ... read more

Buonasera! Italian Class We started classes on Monday and all of us were really excited. For me, starting this class kicked off my final semester in college as I graduate in May. To be kicking off my final semester in this way is just the most incredible thing I can imagine! We have our Italian Language and Culture class everyday from 9 am to 10:30 am, and have so far learned a few grammar rules, learned the alphabet (alfabet), and some numbers. Where I have taken Spanish and French Language classes, my alphabets and numbers are beginning to get mixed together, but pronunciation seems to be easier to do in Italian. The president of the university also stopped into the classroom to formally welcome us into the program and seems like a very wise person in ... read more

Hey guys! So I'm sure you're wondering what has been happening recently now that I have been in Italy for two full days now. Well, here are the highlights! We landed in Italy and were greeted by Dr. Bush, Antonio (our local study abroad program director), and a team of drivers. We were divided off by apartment and taken to see our homes for the next three weeks. Arriving at my apartment was the most exciting experience yet and I say that with a good, and somewhat frightening, connotation. The drive over showed me the great difference between America's rules of the road and Italy's rules of the road. But when we pulled up to the apartment, I was blown away by the view. We are right outside the Duomo and the apartment is just amazing. ... read more

Hello everyone! This is the space where I will be posting consistent updates from my Italy Winter Study Abroad Program. We leave for Italy in roughly 48 hours and I could not be more excited! I am super excited to learn about the Italian culture and to try so many new things while I am there. But I am very anxious to go as this will be the first long trip I have taken without any family members. This will broaden my experience though as I push my comfort zone a bit to explore and create new friendships with the others attending this program with me! I have prepared for this trip through spending time and talking with friends and family members that I will not have much contact with throughout this experience. I have also ... read more
