Family Recipe: Mole 1) The origins of Mole are from Mexico. There are two different stories to the real creation of Mole. The first one is that a few nuns in a convent were going to get visited by the Archbishop. They did not have many ingredients to make the Archbishop a welcoming meal, so they started praying. An angel appeared to them; this angel guided them to mix ingredients including unsweetened chocolate, roasted chili peppers, walnuts, stale breadcrumbs, chicken stock, and another 20 ingredients which resulted in a dark sauce we call Mole.
