It costs nothing to smile
Great story of companionship and hospitality on the road Per-Olof. What a wonderful introduction to Oman for you. The sort of moments that you will probably cherish for years to come. When you think about it they probably arose because you are friendly and they smiled back.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

On eating dates
I went to Oman some years ago and I really liked it there. Nice country, nice people and lots of interesting places to visit. Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque was one of them. One thing I really like about the Arabic countries is that here and there they offer you free dates to eat. It is a nice tradition that makes me feel very welcome. /Ake

Dubai
Great to find an old, traditional part of Dubai, and greater still to find it pretty much mostly to yourself :) I share your experiences, being a solo traveller too, of often having to wait for a while to find someone to help take a photo of you! But it's also a great way to meet people too :) I look forward to reading about your trip to Muscat and Oman.

Dubai
It was a very nice experience indeed. :) I have now purchased a tripod to bring with me on my travels to make it a bit easier to take the pictures I want with me in the frame. :)

Busy Day!
Gosh, I'm amazed at how much you manage to fit into a day of travelling! Especially after a night flight and arriving at 2am! Dubai looks architecturally amazing!

Thanks man! I must admit that I was beat at the end of it though. ^^

Local Travels
Great to hear of a fellow travel blogger also doing local travels. You can learn so much by being a traveller in your own country :) Stockholm looks very grand and regal. I look forward to reading about your trip to Dubai.

Local Travels
It's nice to discover a bit of Sweden as well, I haven't travelled around in Sweden since I was a kid. I will post up some more from Sweden, including my local neighbourhood in a bit. :)

But, but, but....
But that is my photo! I took a somewhat similar photo when I was in Dubai a few years ago. It's not identical but similar in style. Take a look at it (www.travelblog.org/Middle-East/United-Arab-Emirates/Dubai/blog-555600.html) if you are interested. /Ake

Kungliga Slottet

We've dubbed it "The Ugliest Royal Palace in the World"
We have been known to call the Royal Palace in Stockholm "The Ugliest Royal Palace in the World". Is that why they have decided to cover parts of it with tarpaulin? So we don't have to see it?... /Åke

Might very well be the reason! :D

Military Service
I had no idea you had to do military service over there... speaking to friends in Turkey and Greece who did military service, they had mixed feelings about doing it. Sounds like you had a nice and relaxing start to your trip :)

Military Service
It's no longer compulsory but it used to be, we switched to a "professional" army a few years ago. Our army used to be fairly large but it has been completely dismantled over the years, but they are talking about rebuilding it with the increase in armaments in Russia. Honestly it's impossible for us to do it now though, our economy is far to weak now to even keep our infrastructure and health care systems running, we have no possibility of rebuilding our army under these circumstances.

Beautiful Gdansk!
Thank you my friend. Gdansk truly are beautiful. This is the second time a company I work for is moving to Malmö, I hope I find a new job closer to home soon. Until I figure out when and where my next trip goes I will write up a bit on my previous travels, starting with UAE and Oman from 2016. :-)

What a beautiful city
Your enjoyment of Gdansk comes through clearly in your writing... I'm glad you had nice blue sky weather for your last day of exploration. Georgia and Azerbaijan are also on our list, but it sounds like you will be getting there before us, so I'll be looking forward to seeing it through your eyes :)

Poland
I'm afraid I started travel blogging on here only after my visit to Poland in 2010. I recall, though, a nation in mourning, candles lit and flowers throughout the public spaces of the country, and daily news coverage and discussion on the events on Polish television. It was a truly terrible tragedy for the country, and I imagine will be commemorated for years to come.

Poland
Perhaps one day you'll go back and write about it afterwards. :-)
