Incredible
The churches and museums are truly incredible Per-Olof. St John's Co-Cathedral is staggeringly ornate.

Saint Paul's Grotto

Megalithic Magnitude Indeed
Had a nephew drop in on Friday who had been living in Are in Sweden for 5 months. Dropped into Malta for a few weeks on his way home to Oz. Couldn't stop raving about Malta...how due to its position in the Mediterranean it was in the path of every invading force or power for millenia...all leaving their mark. Your blogs have truly put this fascinating island on the TB map Per-Olof...so a big thank you for that.

Thank you my friend for your kind words. I'm glad that you've enjoyed this series about Malta. I hope that you go here some day together with Denise. :)

Great stamina
You two are really taking in the sites! Pretty amazing to see prehistoric to modern (scary prison when those doors shut) sites as well as getting ferry rides. What a lot of fun! As with the Folklore Museum, I often like the venue more than the art, and I especially love house/palace museums--this sounded great!

We are both quite tenacious travellers, every day is filled to the brim with new discoveries. :)

Prisoner of Malta

I feel your pain
No I don't. Not only can you wander through the ages of history...if you misbehave they detain you! Great advice on travel through the extraordinary destination that is Malta Per-Olof. It's now on my bucket list. One day I'll get to Turkey. Malta seems a great stepping stone to that adventure.

Oh it definitely is my dancing friend! On that journey I also have one more advice for you if you haven't been there yet, Cyprus! Such an amazing country ripe with history! When I have the time I'll write about my travel there. :)

Aye, this mosaic was really splendid, well preserved and it really stays with you, it's craftsmanship is exquisite!

SENSATIONAL
Another sensational blog of the delights of ancient Malta...Mdina and Rabat. Reckon you have found a pearl that has lashings of the history of Europe conveniently located in this island in the Mediterranean.

Vilhena Palace

History buffs' delight!
Roman villas, St Paul, catacombs, palaces--what a fabulous dose of history--my favorite! Curious about so many places being closed in summer tourist season. Wonder if the tourist office could give clues on opening times? Good for you for seeing that open door in the cathedral and going for it.

History buffs' delight!
Aye, there are so much to see here that it feels like being a child in a candy-factory! It really is strange with these short opening hours for such amazing sights. I owe getting to see the interior of Saint Paul's Church and Cathedral all to Marcus keen eye. I'm blessed with such a travel partner. :)

Juicy museums!
What fabulous museums, churches and palaces--I think the Grandmasters' Palace with the sumptuous staterooms would have been my favorite. How lucky you are to have a traveling friend who also likes these historical sites! I love visiting these types of places and imagining myself back in time.

Stone on stone...history of ages past
Wow. What a fascinating place. History in stone evidenced by forts, churches, walls...architectually evidence of many powers of ages past. One wonders where they quarried the stone...there is so much of it. What a great view from your room. This looks like a brilliant destination Per-Olof...leave the blog up long enough so others can enjoy it.

City Walls

Love these city walls!
From the empty streets and closed museums and churches, it appears you might have arrived on a Sunday--my favorite day to walk around since there is little traffic. What a sense of history that place has--I look forward to your visits to the open monuments!

Dutch Masters
Aye Dave, I have found myself more and more inclined towards the fine arts lately and the Rijksmuseum really tended to that! You will soon see even more ones when I finish up from my Malta trip. :)

Would be kind of cool to try and grow them, but not legal in Sweden unfortunately. I did try the brownie in Amsterdam, wasn't much different from the effects of a beer in my opinion, except I didn't have to pee afterwards! :D
