OK we've been home a week already but I want to update anyway just to round things off! Last update was from Christchurch I think. None of the accomodations since then had internet access. From Christchurch we took a very uncomfortable cheap bus to Kaikoura ( luckily it was only a 2 hour journey) and arrived to beautiful sunny calm weather, perfect for whale watching. Kaikoura is the best place to see whales and they guarantee 98% chance of seeing at least one or your money back. We arrived at 9.30am and had a place on a boat prebooked (advisable as it's very busy all year round) for 1.45. Had a stroll around the small seafront town. It's beautiful sweeping bay and mountains were very refreshing and uplifting after the dullness of Christchurch. After lunch ... read more
Just chilled out in Christchurch today. Not a very exciting place, it did strive to be very british once but is recovering from that now, but we did see some Kiwis which were very cute and interesting! It's very odd waking in the dark and wondering where I am and what day it is and having to fumble my way to the loo in a strange room almost every night! Falling over things and looking for the light switch ... It's not all fun, there's the laundry for example every 3 or 4 days it piles up and has to be done! It's amazing how many dirty clothes a teenage boy produces especially when he wears 2 or 3 tops and sometimes two pairs of jeans when it's cold!! And it has been here on the ... read more
Hi again, it's been a while but we've been so busy! Finally got to Queenstwon by coach as the flight was cancelled due to snow storms, but it was a happy disruption. A six hour trip but it was worth it for the scenery. Queenstown was in full swing for the Winter Festival for the opening of the ski season and we arrived to fireworks and street musicians and partying! We organised a couple of days skiing straight away as Cffian was very eager to get started. Worked out quite reasonable with a place called Browns where you can hire everything including bus tickets and lift passes and lessons. I learned how to move but took a while to learn how to stop without falling down. Didn't get passed the nursery slopes though! Cian took to ... read more
We said goodbye to Aus today and have landed at Christchurch to find our flight to Queens town cancelled! We've been put up in a nice hotel courtesy of Quantas which is nice!! We finished our Aus adventure in Springwood in the Blue mountains with my aunt Carmel and her husband Dusty and my cousins who treatd us royally! I was very sad to leave them all this morning! There was lots of bbqs and LOTS of wine and beer! They sure know how to treat people! Many thanks to Camel and Dusty ( for the black pudding and the washing and the electric blankets and the beer, Bernie and Jim, Karen and Andrew and al the children and assorted pets including Mitchell's Mexican walking fish (sorry Mitch, I've forgeten how to spell the real name) ... read more
Keep running out of time on this hotel computer and have to feed it 5 dollars every 25 mins!!! Unfortunately I'm not allowed to add pics from cd or camera. You'd need to have a laptop to do that I guess! I may be able to add pics at the cousins house over the next few days so next entry might be just a bunch of random photos!! Meant to say earlier, Cian's hair has got so many comments here. Good and bad depending on where we were! They love it here in Syndey but In Queensland it was another story! One lady taxi driver told us to shave it off while he was sleeping!!! Another Queenslander asked him if he was a cross dresser! He's loving the attention though and is quite the ambassador for ... read more
