Arrived in in Livingstone on the 30 th July. We were staying at one of the Protea hotels, big improvement on Chobe. Protea is a chain throughout Africa and when we go back again we will probably stay with these guys as the hotels are very modern and the service is very good. Our first stop was the falls, they are really spectacular, even though they wernet at their fullest. got absolutely wet walking the track to get better views, but it was so hot that I was dry before got back to the car. it gets up to 50 degrees in the summer, which explains why the roads are so bumpy as the tarseal just melts. July is a good time to go, as temp very mild. Deb got a poncho to protect the camera ... read more

July 28 and 29 we still in Chobe National park. First morning we headed out at 6 am for our first game drive, we were with Aussies whcih was very cool. we pretty much saw a different kind of wild animal roaming around every corner. we can see why chobe safari park is so popular! lots of giraff, buffaloo, hippo, water buck, baboon, sable, red letche, antelope, wart hog and even a lone honey badger. so cool being up so close. the animals were not at all concerned with us being there. booked a little boat drive so ella and i could get more game veiwing time in. we had jeff drive us up chobe river to get even more up close with the huge heards of elephants and buffalo. saw lots of baby elephants and ... read more

Africa » Botswana » North-West » Chobe National Park August 1st 2012

We left the Okovango on an 8 seater plane bound for Kasane, and then onto Chobe national park and the Chobe Safari Lodge on the 27th July. Flight was great with amazing views. When we got to Chobe Safari Lodge we were greeted by some very grumpy receptionists and we thought that this was just a one of thing, but we were wrong. We then went to the activities centre to organise our trips and they were even less interested in us!!! You cant complain about the service at Chobe Safari lodge because there isnt any!!!! The place is clean and tidy and the food is very good, but the service with a smile is non existent for most people we came into contact with. Our room was one of the little chalet type things that ... read more

Africa » Botswana » North-West » Moremi Game Reserve August 1st 2012

Day 2, We headed out in the orning for our first game walk, to say we were nervous is an understatement!!!! We pulled the boat up to on Chiefs island, and got the talk on how to behave when you are walking out where wild animals are. The main thing to do is not RUN, or you are seen as food. Not a great time to find out whether you have the flight or fight instinct. I cant begin to explain the feelig you have as you start walking, everything looks like an animal waiting to eat you lol. We saw vultures so knew there was a kill around somwhere, which normally means lions. Oh yeah forgot to say they dont carry guns, but instead use flares to scare the animals off!!!! We saw hyena and ... read more

Africa » Botswana » North-West » Moremi Game Reserve July 30th 2012

It took about 40 seconds to go through customs at Maun airport - the gateway to the Okavango where everything is low tech. Time to turn the cellphones off and say goodbye to city life as we know it as we hoped on our little little plane. Just enough seats for Ella and I and the pilot but great views of the delta as we flew over the lower reaches of the waterways. No horizon just blue haze coming off the delta merging with blue blue sky for miles. Feeling like we were heading for the back of beyond we landed at moremi crossing on the smallest landing strip I've seen. Ken met us and walked us a few hundred metres into Gunn's camp where the eating safari started. We were given drinks and snacks and ... read more

Well I have been in Joburg for almost a week, and it is nothing like what you expect. When i arrived after 19 hours of flying I decided to go to the Sandton Mall. I have to tell you I felt completly under dressed. Everyone was in designer gears and looked like they were all heading to a flash restaurant for dinner lol. The weather is really nice, you wouldnt know itnis winter other than it been a bit cold in the morning, the days are clear sky and warm. One thing you notice is the two sides of Johannesburg the really rich and the very poor. Drove past a township today its amzing how people mange to live there, and you could smell it as you went past. At the traffic lights or robots as ... read more

Asia January 25th 2011

Well we have been in Siem Reap for two days now, very small town but I am sure that if we were to come back in five years it would be a different story. There are new hotels been built all over the place and there will be no shortage of guests to fill them. The temples around here are amazing, stunning and beautiful in a kind of very old way. After we landed on Monday our first port of call was you guessed it lunch......We were beside ones of the Kings swimming poll. Now he really new how to build them we would call it a moat but he called it a pool!!! and used it as that. It was huge, the young kids now use it as a pool so all good. After lunch we headed ... read more
