Angkor Wat
Sunrise at Angkor Wat Hi, I am back after a writers block :-)
Day 53 - 07.08.2008
On a bus from China, we crossed into Laos. First stop is a village called Luang NamTha.
Time for dinner and they have potatoes, can I say more after 28 days in China. And they have probably the best beer in Asia - Lao Beer.
The second day in Laos we are watching the opening ceremony from Beijing on TV. And we where thinking we was there just a month ago.
Spent some days in the village, and had plans to take a bus to Luang Panbang, but after the heavy rainfall yesterday the roads are flooded and there are been mudslides blocking the roads. And it can take a while to get through. So we decide to take the bus to Thailand instead.
The border town by the mighty Mekong is called Houaysai, from here we can cross the river with boat. We do that and we arrive in Chiang Khong, Thailand.
Jumping on a new bus/taxi heading for the Golden Triangle. In Mae Sai we crossing the Mekong again in to Myanmar. It's just a day pass, so we have dinner and a Myanmar
beer before we walking back to Thailand. 3 country's in one day, not bad.
Next day we take a bus to Chiang Rai, then wait for a couple of hours for the next bus to the beautiful city of Chiang Mai. This city has 300 temples (wat). That is half of the temples in Thailand.
Staying in Chiang Mai for 5 days, looking at temples and having foot-massage.
After discussing to take a bus to Laos again, we ending up taking our first flight. Hanoi, Vietnam are our new destination.
And as peace loving people we are, we don't a visa for Vietnam (just have to remember to get out before 15 days). Then after getting tired of motorbikes, we take the bus to Ha Long Bay. Couple of days on boat, swimming, kayaking and looking at limestone peeks.
So 4 hours on bus back to Hanoi, before catching the train to DaNang. From there a minibus to HoiAn. In HoiAn there are something like 3-400 tailors. A lot in a small town. Here we make us some cloths.
Next stop is NhaTrang, the first thing that's caught our tension when we arrive at 6 am is that the
beach are full of people. Doing sports and chi chi. Looks like the hole town is doing there exercise before work. Not much to do in this town, but they have great beaches.
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) are a big busy city, crawling with motorbikes.
After swimming and jumping of the boat in Ha Long Bay I had problems hearing on one ear. So I was told to go to the hairdresser to clean my ears. So I did. One girl cleaning my ears, and 10 others was watching......he he funny.......and then I could hear again, and decided to cut my hair also since I first was here.
To mention some food, Pho Bo is a tradition in Vietnam and must be tasted. Is a kind of noddle soup.
From here we book a trip on Mekong Delta heading up stream to Phnom Penh in Cambodia.
It's a to days trip bus and boat combined. First day we are cruising the Delta and looking at boats. Second day we cross the border in to Cambodia and arrive in Phnom Penh in the evening. It's was a create trip. Nice to see the country's from the river.
In
Cambodia
Another Wat Phnom Penh we learned about the Cambodian tragedy by visiting 'The killing fields' and the S21 prison in the city. It was not a nice day.
Day after went to the Russian marked, don't know why they call it that. But everything cost 1 or 2 USD. Then heading south to Sihanoukville to relax on the beach for 4 days. Then on the bus to Siam Reap for look at the Angkor Wat, the highlight in Cambodia. And the reason I went there. It was great, and a lot more temples then I expected.
Time to catch a new flight, this time to Kho Samui in Thailand. And boat to Kho PaNang.
Kho PaNang are famous for there full moon parties. Every full moon and half moon.
After relaxing and sleeping of all the buckets (your drinks are served in buckets here), we go to relax in Kho Tao for 2-3 weeks.
On this island, I take my Open Water + Advance Diving lessons. Great diving, I loved it.
Then boat / bus up to Bangkok or as the formal name is:
Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon
Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit
We stay at the famous backpacker street Khao San Road, since that is what we are.
After some days here me and my travel companion's split up. Some are going to New Zealand, and some to Malaysia. Myself is going to Singapore and the to Darwin in Australia. In Singapore I visit a friend from Norway on his ship in dock at the shipyard. And we spent a day clubbing the city.
Next stop is planed to be Australia.
