We arrived in Bali from Java, we caught the ferry across, Stu did a bit of bargaining for our transport to Lovina, North of Bali, as it was about 100kms away from the port, our drivers take us to two motorbikes, we were on these things for 1hr 15mins, our poor bums were killing us when we arrived, just a couple of scary moments, but it was a good job it was dark!
It was our 3rd time lucky for accomodation, as everywhere seemed fully booked (end of Ramadam), but we found a lovely place called Rini Hotel, which has about 20 cottages, all really clean, well built and the grounds are stunning and the staff are so friendly and for 6pounds a night with breakfast and swimming pool, its great.
We stayed here for 3nights, didn't move from the pool, well apart from swimming and getting lunch. We watch the sunset on the first night which was really nice, over the mountains of Java.
We had arranged to meet our Dutch friends (Niek and Sanne) in Kuta, so instead of going straight there we stopped off in a nice place called Ubud, The views on the way
up were great, its really high up in the central mountains of Bali, Ubud is the home of artists. Its very touristy and expensive, but a good place to go if your on your 2 week holidays, lots of lovely things to buy.
We went on a walk through some paddy fields which was nice, but VERY hot, we bumped into a local man, his was quite strange, he insisted we drank the coconut milk from the coconuts he had just climbed up and got for us but neither of us like it, but we did to be polite, then he chopped open the coconut and we ate the flesh, he then got on the floor to beg and he kept saying we go for a coffee in his hut, two sugars, no idea what he was saying, but we gave him some money and eventually got a way.
Kuta - Bali's largest and tackiest tourist beach resort, its def for the tourists, mostly Aussies, being so close, the beaches aren't anything special, black sand beaches, the bars are dead expensive and the restaurants are expensive too, we much preferred Lovina, still kitted out for the tourists much
a lot nicer. Two bombs exploded back in 2002, they say the tourists haven't really been coming as much since.
We met up with Niek and Sanne for 2 nights and had a good laugh, before they went home to Holland, its was an emotional goodbye!!, but plan to see them next year.
We didn't want to spend our last week or so in Kuta, so we decided to head for Lombok, caught the bus to the port, bought our ferry tickets and we had just missed our ferry by minutes, next one would be in a hour or so, we were queuing up, some local man was trying to take a photo of me, he stood right behind a man with the biggest lens over this blokes shoulder, so i turned my back, he soon got bored waiting!
We both decided, we didn't see the point in going to Lombok for 4nights, when the ferry was taking us the wrong place (Lembar, rather than Senggigi), we would then have to get transport, which would of been another day wasted etc etc etc and really we have had enough of epic trips and just wanted to relax
before heading to OZ, so we hired a mini van to take us back to Lovina, took about 3hours, again the views were great, drove the coastal road and we have stayed here for 4nights, doing nothing at all.
We fly out to Perth onthe 4th October (early morning), so we got a lift back to Kuta with Alan, we met him around the pool at Rini Hotel, he dropped us off in Sanur, next town along from Kuta and we caught a taxi back to good old Kuta.
We had met a nice couple in Lovina (1st time around) they're from America but currently working on a boat for Scuba hoildays, great job!, then when we arrived back in Lovina, we saw them again which was nice to go out for drinks.
We both really loved Bali and if anyone wants to go, please visit Lovina, Stu and I are like locals, everyone seems to know us, it was quite sad to leave.
Goodbye Asia, hello to the Weston world, with REAL wine - yippeeeee!!
