Mui Ne Beach, Vietnam
Kitesurfers' paradise Greetings all
We trust most of you had a wonderful and hopefully relaxing Christmas. No doubt a few were suffering - we hope this was more self-inflicted rather than winter bugs.
We've been very naughty and have just spent 6 days on "holiday" - yes, yes we'e sure you think we've been on holiday for the past 3 months but this was proper holiday!
We spent a fabulous 6 days in MUI NE, about 200kms north of Ho Chi Minh City. Loved the place so much that we wanted to share a bit about it with you. If you're looking for a bit of winter sunshine in an unusual destination this might be for you. It's the kitesurfing and windsurfing capital of south Vietnam and is also famous for its enormous red and white sand dunes. It sports some pretty exclusive resorts too. Whilst we stayed at a little hotel for US$12 a night, just across the road were several luxury resorts costng US$150 a night who let us use their facilities for the bargain price of US$3 each, which included using their private beach with sun loungers and towels provided, waiter
service and a nice young man to move your bed as the sun moved round. Luxury!
We couldn't get enough of this 5 star treatment but decided we really should do something more energetic so we booked a half day tour of the sand dunes and spent a wonderful afternoon climbing them and visiting the original fishing village here, which we were pleased to see is still going very strong.
It was a struggle to decide where to dine each day as there are just so many restaurants here offering fabulous and strange cuisine. The seafood is wonderful - lobster, crab, shrimps, squid, oysters, mussels, clams and many varieties of fish. We didn't find the reptile menu as appetising, this included crocodile, snake, frogs, tortoise (really it was soft shell turtle like soft shell crab but a bit more turtlely!). Great for shopping too with lots of chic shops selling anything from jewellery, clothes, souvenirs, etc to stuffed baby crocodiles.
We thought you'd also like to see a few photos of the place.
Before we sign off we'd love to wish you all a very happy, healthy and
Mui Ne Beach, Vietnam
Christmas day.........couldn't find a Santa hat rewarding 2015. Now it's time for us to stop being holiday makers and return to being backpacking travellers, seeing temples and some cultural stuff........but it's just soooooooooooo hard to drag ourselves away.
With lots of love,
Trev & Verity xxx
