After the run
Well, it has been a while since I last sat down on a PC and wrote a report. But that’s how it gets when you are backpacking in Asia, or anywhere else. Time is just standing still and you just want to do one thing after the after and don’t think about writing reports. That’s for the business world, not the traveler one.
Anyway, what happened since our tubing times in Lao? Well, I am sitting here in an internet café in …… Saigon. Yes, already in Vietnam.
After I wrote the last entry for the blog we stayed another day in VV. It was just too relaxing and we had a pretty stiff tour behind us. The young kids just couldn’t handle it anymore and Michael had pitty on them. So the day after the tubing was spend reading books, relaxing on the balcony of the hotel and sipping lemon juice the bar below.
The next morning we left back for Vientiane as the hole travel plan, design in the comfort of the living room in Sydney, went to shits the day we arrived in Thailand. You know, it is always great to plan trips on paper,
Sunset after the run.....
but in reality you never have time to finish it. So the plan to go all the way up to China and cross over to Vietnam, do a memorial service in Long Tang and deliver Michael on time for his flight back to Sydney was just to ambitious.
So our plan was to go back to Vientiane and catch a plane from there into Saigon. Only problem was that Peter is on a tight budget and he decided to catch the bus. Very brave move, since it would take him on a 46 hour bus trip. Not a very comfortable thing at the best of times……..
In Vientiane we decided to join the Hash House Harriers again, this time for the bush hash, minus Peter who was on his long bus trip already. So at 3.00 pm on Saturday we were ready at the fountain to be picked up. On off we went into the Lao countryside. The run was set and off we went….. Through rice paddies, backyards, roads and a wonderful countryside. I can honestly say it was one of the best runs I ever did. People on the streets wondering what these crazy “falangs” where
Bare arse on ice... not a nice thing...
doing running around in that heat.
After the run we had the traditional hash circle where songs where sung, beers downed and people had to sit with their bare arse on ice. I made the mistake to mentioned in the car that I was very happy with my better half, so the label of sex tourist didn’t apply for me. For this I was given d down down. Hard live……..
After the run we went to a restaurant, had a nice dinner and went to bed as the next morning we had to get up early fro the flight.
The flight into Saigon was as usual - in an airplane, up and down, out of an airplane. Just thinking about it, it is the best way really as you don’t want anything to happen.
Well, here we were in Saigon, without Peter since he was stuck in Asians wop wop somewhere we didn’t know. Good old Saigon….. same same - but different. More cars, more bikes, more people. It was the same old Saigon I knew but different in many ways.
Today we just did the touristy thing. We hired some poor old bugger to
drive us via rickshaw driver to peddle us all around Saigon for $10. We visited the war museum, the opera house, markets, etc etc. A hard life it was.
After the tour we just had some lunch in a restaurant and observed the traffic below us. Mad as hell. No traffic laws observed at all and good entertainment..
So here I am pretty tired and ready for bed. Tomorrow morning we are of to Long Tang on a one day trip. 7.00am start. So let’s see how that will work out.
So please excuse my very short report, but I am buggered. I will be back on line very soon and fill you in what will happen in the next few days………
