We took our time getting up this morning, went and enjoyed our last break here and then watched tv till it was time to leave.
On our way to the airport Brad decided to enquire why all the trees on the side of the road were painted white on the bottom but it just so happened that there was a sign on one of the trees advertising land for sale so, due to the language barrier, our driver thought that Brad was asking about the land so within a minute he was passing Brad his phone and the land sales person was on the phone trying to sell us land. One of the things we have learnt is that the second that you mention you are interested in anything they will have a cousin or a broither or aunty who sells whatever it is.
At the airport we were waiting around to get on our Vietjet flight from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) and I whispered to Brad that the little girl opposite us was gorgeous but that it was unusual to see "a little fatty" here, I didn't mean it in a derogatory way but she
was very overweight which is unusual here, unlike in Australia where you will often see obese children, particularly in lower socio-economic areas. Before long we got chatting to the little girl and she started practicing her English on us, next thing she says to me “ Do you think I’m fat?”, OMG this girl could not have been any cuter. I didn’t want to hurt her feelings so I told her I thought she was beautiful, which was the truth, she was just adorable. She was 8 years old, similar age to our twins who are about to turn 8. It was hilarious when she was trying to say our names, she couldn't say Brad and didn't understand so I said "like Brad Pitt" coz everyone else seems to know Brad Pitt, well this little girl didn't so at first she thought Brad was Brad Pitt but then she pointed to Brad and said "Brad" and then me and said "Pitt", she finally got it after a few goes. We asked if we could have a photo with her but her Mum said no, which as a parent I can understand completely, especially as we were told only the day before that child abductions are not unusal in Vietnam. Before we left she told me that I was beautiful like a beautiful flower, she was so sweet. We waved goodbye, I would have loved to bring her home with us, she was just so cute.
We then got on the plane which was surprisingly clean, new and everything was well organised. We were given the exit aisles which was good for Brad.
When we arrived (which was a couple of hours after our expected arrival time) our driver was waiting there with a big sign with my name on, he was so excited that we were finally there because the poor man had been waiting for all that time. It turned out that they had to send our car elsewhere and had to pick us up in an old Landcruiser. We then drove to the hotel which took about an hour. On arrival at the hotel we checked into our room. We were staying at the Hotel Equatorial which was great. We then caught the hotel's courtesy bus to the main part of the city and wandered around the shops and markets, etc. AT one point we couldn't find the markets so we asked this good looking Aussie guy for directions, as he started helping us, i realised it was Pete Murray. Being the cool person that I am, I said "OMG you're Pete Murray" he laughed and kept in with the directions. We thanked him, I told him how much I love his music and we went on our way. I wanted to ask for a photo but I already felt like such a groupie that I didn't ask.
We eventually went back to the hotel, had some drinks in the hotel bar (where Brad tried a local craft beer that apparently had pepper in it which he enjoyed. I had the Melon Fizz cocktail which was good. We then went off to bed quite late and had to be up early the next day for ur trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels.
