From Da Nang, it's a 40 minute drive to the UNESCO world heritage town of Hoi An. The town was run by various different immigrant Chinese clans and the clan family homes and meeting halls are well preserved. Not many US bombs in this tiny part of Vietnam and no Vietnamese redevelopment schemes here either. So, Hoi An is a very rare scene.

The two is a tourist magnet and pretty well every shop is geared to focus on tourists. Only pedestrian traffic is permitted in the old town centre for most of the day. Kamikaze motorbikes are allowed in later in the evening.

On the 14th and 15 of each Lunar month (i.e. Full moon) all traffic is banned for the monthly lantern festival. It's a very pretty town with lots of character and characters.
