My last stop was Hoi An from where I took a nightbus to Nha Trang. I was travelling with two guys and when we made our booking in Hoi An we requested not to get seats right in the back of the sleeper bus. The back of the bus has between 3 and 5 beds next to each other which don't offer a lot of privacy. The lady made a note on our ticket. When we handed our ticket in at the bus stop we made the same request again and the lady said that it won't be a problem because we can choose our seats. We made a plan that someone looks after the bags, ensuring that they get stored away, and the other two run into the bus and reserve seats. Well, this plan ... read more

Nha Trang Nha Trang is about 45 minutes from the Airport and there is this long, long motorway linking the two, and nothing else in between. There is a 20 metre wide centre verge running along the middle of the right and left lanes. This must have gone for at least 25 minutes of the ride. They have planted trees and flowers and on the way I saw over 30 Vietnamese with domestic hoses watering the plants. Have they not heard of sprinklers? Take the offer at the Airport of 380,000 dong fixed price, we insisted on meter (as you do) and had to pay 500,000. Last time we visited the beach was wild, the waves reminded us of Napier and how it can collect you off the sand and sweep you away in the tide. ... read more

The trip from Dalat to Nha Trang was very easy. It took 4 hours and it was very pretty meandering through the mountains watching the waterfalls come down and under the road. After arriving in Nha Trang we found a hotel on the beach and went out exploring the sea front and the shops, we found a night market with lots of nice places to eat and it was only 25,000 Dong for a cocktail which is about 70p! After two nights in the hotel we got a note under our door saying that we needed to keep an eye on our things as someone had had money stolen from there room, the cleaners tried to go around and collect all these notes so that the guests couldnt see! After we had a look through our ... read more

For the last day in Nha Trang we had a free morning so I headed off on my own in an attempt to see a massive white Buddha statue. Unfortunately the map we'd been given didn't have a scale on it and by the time I'd reached the Catholic Cathedral (bizarre!) and then a war memorial statue near the train station, I admitted defeat and gave up on my mission, opting instead to get a cyclo back to the beach area. I haggled my price and off we set across the main road straight into oncoming, wave after wave of mopeds! We eventually got across to the right hand side of the road and only a couple of roundabouts - with criss-crossing madness - to endure and we arrived at the beach. I spent the next ... read more

Well I survived Room 101 but someone else did get flooded in the night (via their faulty air con) so maybe I projected it onto them - do it to Nat, do it Nat! (George Orwell's 1984 reference if you didnt' know.) Today was to be a blissful one of relaxation, relaxation and maybe a bit more relaxation thrown in for good measure. We set off from the busy port at Nha Thrang in a wooden boat with our guide for the day An and a massage/nail lady too. We were barely out of the port before our girls were sitting having their nails done. We were heading to the island of Mieu where the population are mostly children (they love big families there - up to 6 or 7 in a family is common). The ... read more

11.4.2012 We arrived in Nha Trang after a terrible sleep at 6am. We had a few hotels in mind but on the way some guy wouldn't leave us alone trying to sell us a room. We had a look at it and decided to stay there, for the first night anyway. We were shattered so we went to bed for a few hours. When we got up we went the beach. It was actually a nice beach and was very long. Been a month or so since we were last on one! The sea was very warm, so didn't do much if you wanted to cool off! On the way back the hotel we looked for a cheaper place to stay and booked a boat trip for the next day. I have been craving pizza so ... read more

We left Kuala Lumpur and took our last Air Asia flight to Hanoi in North Vietnam. We arrived to 18 degrees and were cold and not pleased that we had sent all our warm clothes back to Newcastle with Mark. Now you might think 18 is a nice warm day back in the UK but when you've been used to 30 degree heat, 18 is then cold. Hanoi was very dusty and foggy when we arrived in the old town and we found a hotel for £10 a night, which was by far the nicest room we'd stayed in so far through Asia! We decided to go for some good old western food i.e. pizza and ordered a margareta from this little french cafe, unfortunatly the pizza came with black olives and pineapple, on a margareta! ... read more

The town of Na Trang is situated on the coast midway between Saigon and Hoi An. It is a complete melting pot of the Vietnamese people living their way of life and a huge tourist industry rubbing shoulders side by side. We are staying in one of the many modern hotels that line the roads but when we look down from our balcony on the fifth floor we can watch people going to worship in the temple down below and street traders struggling along under the weight of their baskets heavy laden with fruit, baguettes and all manner of food. Early in the morning small cafes suddenly appear on the side of the road and the local workers congregate to eat breakfast. A couple of hours later the cooking pots, charcoal burners, tables and chairs ... read more

Having left Mui Ne I was not sure about going back to Nha Trang after my last visit our bus decided to leave us behind but luckily we got another one and got in a sleeper bus for the 6hr journey to Nha Trang. We arrived late evening and ended up helping another traveller where we both got some cheap accomodation for 9 dollars a room. I then decided to locate the famous bar called the "Why not Bar" and started on the cocktails with our new freind called Anna we all chatted and headed off to bed around midnight. The following day we hired a scooter for 2 dollars and headed off to the hot springs just outside Nha Trang where we had a mud bath followed by relaxing in different pools at different temperatures. ... read more

Nha Trang is a beautiful city and the beach capital of Vietnam. Mountains lie behind the city and the beach stretches for kilometres along the coast. The water is clear blue from the beach out to meet the islands facing the city. It almost looks like the whole bay is enclosed by green hills, just heavenly! Nha Trang is also a place to chill, party and meet others who are either coming down from Hanoi or up from Saigon, all on the coastal route that is now becoming one of my favourite of all the countries. We spent four nights here and the place sort of seduced us. Between relaxing to planning our route into Laos, figuring out Vietnamese visa issues this place will still stand out as somewhere where it would be easy to go ... read more
