This is the correct version, not the one previously published. The computer had not saved the updated version and so had published the un-spellchecked, unfinished version. So here you go, the full, proper version! Cheesy title I know, but it had to be done! HUE (29 NOV 05 - 02 DEC 05) No thanks to the traffic four floors below us, we actually manage a bit of a lie in. We seem to be staying at the busiest crossroad in Hue. We have a lazy morning and watch the Legends of the Fall on t.v.- what a novelty (I don't even watch t.v. in bed at home!). We eat brekkie at La Boulangerie Francaise where they make delicious cakes and pastries and profits go to local charities. We wander around a bit, down to the waterfront ... read more

Caught the overnight train from Hoi An and find that the two Danish guys (Milo and Joey) are along for the ride. Once again, I am unable to sleep on the bus...oh well... We arrive into Nha Trang and the rain is coming down hard. It ends up that the rain would continue for the 3 days I am in the city. I signed up to go scuba diving with Rainbow Divers (as I bump into Graham, a dive master I met on Cat Ba Island). Spent rest of the day wandering around a bit in the rain..even went to the beach and stood in front of the rough surf with my green poncho on....felt like Bodi from the concluding scene in the movie Point Break (that's for you Dave Zarin). Woke up early next day ... read more

Yesterday we arrived at the Nha Trang Port around 1 pm, and boarded our buses for our excursions straight away. It was cloudy and looked like rain so we all took our umbrellas. Apparently we are right in the Monsoon season. Eg: torrential rain. We were supplied plastic rain coats for our excursions, and we all splashed around sightseeing while the heavens opened up. At some locations people were standing ankle deep in water. We gamely piled out of the bus and crossed a bridge over some river, sorry don't have my notes with me. Through the water running in my face I viewed a little island that a temple had been built on. The waters of the river are very muddy, as is the sea by the port. Our guide explained that there was a ... read more

Having arrived the night before & checked in at the lovely family run Orchid guesthouse we strolled down the full length of the Nha Trang beach. The waves were spectacular as they crashed just off the shore. On our return we had lunch at the divine Sailing Club with sea views (lunch was icecream and tea!). Later we met up with Jane, Adrian and Babsi in Guava bar, expecting the Vietnam vs. Laos game to be playing there was no footie but there were great 2-for-1 Bellinis. The guys then headed off for their Danang-bound train and we headed to the Red Star for dinner. The decor was basic but the food was fantastic. We had shrimps in lobster sauce and fish claypot, both highly recommended if you are in the area. Drink of the Day: ... read more

We have just spent a week in Nha Trang resting up. It's a nice beach resort here in Vietnam, there is the usual tourist aimed restaurants and you still get lots of hassle from street sellers trying to sell you everything from books to weed. The favourite sayings here (and in Thailand) are 'Happy Hour' which seems to be every hour, and your my first customer of the day. Its quite comical really. We have not done a great deal here except laze on the beach, have a mud bath and soak in the hot springs. We did arrange to do a boat and snorkeling trip but the weather these last couple of days has been rather bad, so we rented a DVD player instead. ... read more

Dalat/Mui Ne/Nha Trang It's been quite a hectic couple of weeks; the weather in Vietnam has been less than spectacular so there's been a lot of moving. If it keeps raining I may be headed to Thailand/India earlier than I thought. Dalat is the "kitsch capital" of Vietnam, a European-style city founded by frenchmen up in the mountains. Although going somewhere cold (or at least somewhere where I could maybe put my fleece to use) seemed like a quaint idea, the novelty quickly wore off as along with the cooler temperatures came rain. The city itself was also nothing particularly special; it did have winding, Spanish-feeling streets, and some amusing kitsch crap, but really it was a city much like any other, and I definately did not fall in love with it. Outside the city, however, ... read more

Leaving Hoi An, we made the bus wait 5 minutes while the last shop we ordered from motorbiked the final touches on a dress and silk robe to us at the station. actually, we were waiting on another delivery by bike as well, but we had maxed out the driver's patience. opps. do you expect any less from us? stacy and jessie = the definition of procrastination. but we wanted out of that city b/c if we didn't leave then, it would mean another 24 hours in the land of shopping. bad news. so we got on, and said we would figure it out later. ahh yes, we get to sit next to eachother - alway a plus, but all of our foot space was occupied by our new wardrobes. so we settled in and switched ... read more

That more people die of coconut related injuries than Avean Flu (more commonly known as Bird Flu)??!! Thought that should be made known before I delved into the sights and sounds of Nha Trang. Always good to know! There were a lot of coconut trees in Nha Trang!! Nha Trang was AMAZING!!! I love Saigon but it is a HUGE city, pollution and people go hand in hand here and so it was just great to be able to leave the city for a few days. We left early Saturday morning on the plane (Vietname Airlines did a pretty good job - I reccomend it!) and we checked in our guesthouse where I shared a room with Moira. The boys were on our floor but had access to a roof terrace. It seems to us that ... read more

I am back on the beach and enjoying every minute of sun and sand and I can get. Only...it's been raining on and off ever since we arrived in Nah Trang and the beach is a bit of a disappointment. Our little group of four has temporally increased to seven. We met three lone travelers on the bus on the trip from Saigon and have been together ever since. Between all the people we've met at restaurants and pubs around town, it's hard to walk down the street without running into a familiar face. I suppose that's why we've been having such a difficult time pinning down a date to leave here. I am sharing a room with the Irish gals, once again, and this time we were pleasantly surprised to find Star Movies and the ... read more

The trip to Nha Trang was arduous in that family roadtrip way. My entire family (2 pairs of aunts/uncles/cousins) and I packed into a rented Mercedes minivan and off we went from Bien Hoa into Nha Trang and later to Dalat. Some of the best scenery you'll see of Vietnam is outside your car window as you whizz by remote villages, rice paddies, isolated forestry, and mountain peaks. On Hwy 1, we passed long stretches of remote beaches where the only people you may see are fishermen. As you go further north away from HCMC, the soil turns red. Remarks on Nha Trang Heavily commercialized. It was the first place where I saw the largest number of westerners. Despite the touristy atmosphere, I thought Nha Trang did live up to its promise of having the nicest ... read more
