Geo: 12.2453, 109.199Having been on a packed sleeper bus for 12 hours (and when i say packed, i am talking people sitting in the isles as there were not enough beds for the 'added extras') I was half asleep when all hell broke out. The deal was that the bus was to take us to the hotel as there were so many of us, however no one had told the bus driver this, so when some of the lads attempted to load the bags back onto the bus, the driver threw a good few punches, and soon metal bars and knives appeared on the scene too. Of course we all got off the bus as they wanted as soon as this happened, however it was all rather scary for us (let alone the 2 little (under ... read more

We set off from Hong Kong on 9th to Saigon and got our transferred to Nha Trang. All the way by the Vietnam Airline. It took about 1 hour and 20 minutes to the destination. Having arrived at the airport, we actually felt quite unhappy as we expected we had to find a cab to go the resort--Evason Ana Mandara. It was about 10o'clock when we landed and we were anxious about the way to the resort, especially it was dark outside and most Viets didn't understand English. To our great surprise, the resort had someone waited at the airport, holding a board welcoming us! That is when we felt the real journey started! The staff escorting us to the car gave each of us a bottle of water, which definitely was something we needed! Once ... read more

So today was painful again and things got worse but we did go to a water park across the sea on the worlds longest cablke car oversea Vinpearl and the ark was amazing the rides were all fun if not a little dangeours. One point there was a tree and a flip and other people just hurt various parts of there body but all in all a good day. Apologies to those who I was there with for being so quiet at the end of the day it was amazing and everything I just struggled with the pain abit. The train however in the evening to get to Hochimin was cracking just what i needed compared to a bus. Met some amazing people here and lots of good times to remeber.... read more

Basically there is lots I could talk about today swimming, bathing, brewery beer (a whopping 1 litre) a seafood dinner which I couldnt eat but all that today reminds me of is the intense burn i recived for being an idoiot and staying out in the sun too long!!! Blisters a plenty and red as a salmon I soildered on through the rest of the day (I didnt moan or anything.....) Once we were done with the beech etc we hit the bars and saw Murray win gold which was a moment of epicness! We played some Jenga had a go at being a youtube Dj and ... read more

So following our epic bus journey we arrived at Nha Trang somewhat later than expected, around 8.30pm, with nowhere booked to stay. However, we had done some research and found a few hotels to try, so we head off into the darkness to find them, and what we found was that they were all full! So we had to start again, just trying places and hoping for the best. Its difficult hunting for accomodation in the dark with your bag, it makes you a target for every tout and driver on the streets! We quite quickly found a quiet guesthouse with a nice sized clean room for only $15 dollars a night, so we took it and thought we can always move tomorrow if its no good. Headed out into the night and had some food ... read more

We left Saigon on our open bus ticket and headed to Mui Ne. After a very long bus ride, on a sleeper bus, I need to explain what exactly that means to us. A sleeper bus is designed with basically a lounge chair-but as Americans, take our average lounge chair, cut it in half lengthwise, then cut off bottom third of it. I fit fine (but I sat backwards in it with my feet in the air); Steven, however, looked like he was in Baby Bear's chair. We pulled up to Mui Ne, found the road that led to our guesthouse, and started the trek up. Halfway there the rain poured-out of nowhere, well, not nowhere, the typhoon in Hong Kong started it. Anyway, Steven ducked under a corrugated tin roof-and what do you know! It ... read more

The three hour bus journey from Dalat to Nha Trang was the most spectacular of the trip so far. The bus ascended slowly to the peak of the mountains passing vineyards, greenhouses and paddy fields. The altitude together with the high precipitation creates the perfect environment for producing products many other parts of SE Asia cannot. The descent was a magnificent sight and I’m sure I enjoyed it more than Jane. The bus slowly snaked its way around the mountainside, with amazing views and extreme 'squeaky bum time' drops to both sides. I was pleased that our driver was one of the best we have had and took each corner slowly and safely. Many of the bus drivers out here must be massive fans of Wacky Races, all trying to drive as fast as they can, ... read more

Our latest blog comes to you while lying on a sleeper bus our first real backpacker mode of transport! Wow what an...not sure how to describe this one... We are squeezed in on bottom and top bunks in leather reclining seats with a seatbelt and foot holder developed for the size of a child. God help anyone larger than us! We are being transported to Saigon on an 11 hour overnight journey for $11 each and we don't need a hostel some might say bargain, we think the honking and bumpy road might have us question our sanity! It reminds Lauren of the Harry Potter knight bus all sleeping in rows, the bus fitting in spaces it doesn't seem possible and surrounded by strange folk! There are no other apparent westerners on here and we wonder ... read more

With the action packed day of cannoning the day before it was time to say goodbye to Dalat and make our way to Nha Trang. During my time in Dalat I meet an English girl in her early 20s named Anna that was heading to Nha Trang as well so with a little bit of convincing she deciding to jump on the back of my bike to really see Vietnam for the next leg. This part of the trip the whole gang was together, Jazza, Maarten, Rob, Meaghan, Anna and I, which was the first of many trips throughout Vietnam together. With a planned get away set at 8am we all got together but Jazza run into a few problems with his bike and had to find a mechanics to do a quick fix. This really ... read more
