.........
Why did I return to a place I didn't like the first time I was here? Two reasons, one I believe in second chances and two, I knew it would be easy to get a short contract here to get back to my ultimate goal....Latin America again.......Eventually, if nothing else comes up to sidetrack me lol
I'm in a much different location than last year, but still the same shitty food options same ridiculousness in regards to the sun same organizational difficulties...as many of you know from reading my blogs regularly I have a distinct disdain towards Vietnam and the absurdity of the culture. Many will simply ask "well why are you there? You're a glutton for punishment" point taken, but as I stated above I do believe in second chances and unfortunately it hasn't changed my perception in any way except the that this area has a lot more things to do and see than the south did. The beach is 25 km away, nice lakes and beautiful landscapes full of rice fields which the latter was in the south as well.
I hooked up with the person I worked for last year and
things dramatically changed after I started. This year I have to pay for visas, taxed 10% on my monthly pay which pissed me off enough that I am leaving in July regardless of not making really anything here in this stint. I have contacted some people I know in Central and South America to put some feelers out there as far as jobs. I've learned a lot from other older teachers I have met on this journey and it is has been tremendously useful and appreciated! Regardless of having something lined up or not by July I'm on a jet plane headed east and that's enough for me. I never got into this business with the expectation of making lots of money it's a way for me to travel the globe and supplement my income along the way. This past year has been full of disappointments and hard times, but that's life no sense in dwelling on it, my philosophy has always been if you're not happy, change your situation any way you can you can't be scared to take chances!
The English couple that was here when I came in March finally left after 2 months
extra work to help out the lazy staff who recruits douchebags (aside from me and them 😊 after doing a year here and they built some very good relationships here, but by the end were happy to leave and get on their way away from the crappy food and bullshit here. Very cool couple who I'd live to work with in the future for sure!
Out of the blue i was contacted by an academic director from a school in Luang Prabang,Laos about a teaching contract starting in September and pays well,so I'll do a Skype interview on the 11th of May to see if I can get it ..it pays much better than anything I'll find in my beloved Latin America ...so we will see and if not........10 more weeks and I'm out of here and surely counting every day! As I said this year has been really rough on my side from here to the Russian ruble collapse to the Hitleristic situation in Turkey and now back in this....I'll leave it alone lol. I'm just soooooooo fucking looking forward to getting back to the Americas! Limited money, but it hasn't been the first time so
I'll survive! I will be flying to a part of Mexico I never made it to in my 6 months of traveling in 2010, Oaxaca, to get to the markets and smuggle some special chili seeds south for my farm in South America in a few years. Along the way south I'll stop in a small town on the tri-borders of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala to see a great family who treated me as their own when I started in this business...it's been a couple of years and that will be great for me to see them again! From there heading to Panama City to meet my very good friend Gloria, who is from Colombia and she is an adventurous person like myself and we are going to make our way to Colombia via boat to visit her family in Cali. I will search for teaching jobs there, but if I don't find anything I have a good contact in Brazil that I can go work for and do my dream adventure before getting there which is to canoe from Leticia to Manaus on my own!
Anyways, I just wanted to update as its been a
few months! I hope everyone is doing great and get back on the road!!!!!!
Buen Viaje!
