Men ikke noe matforgifting, kun ... read more

We made our way out to HCMC airport for the 1 hour flight to Phu Quoc, a small island west of Vietnam mainland, in the Gulf of Thailand... It is actually only about 11km from the Cambodian border and more than 70 kms from any part of mainland Vietnam, but the island is definately Vietnamese (also has a strong military presence to disuade Cambodia from asserting it's theoretical claim on the territory) The island is about the same size a Singapore, very much under-developed from a tourism perspective at this stage, although that is rapidly changing with the cogs of tourist infrastructure now being seen everywhere. There are many small beach resorts dotted down the western coast in a 2 km stretch down from the small but bustling capital of Duong Dong. Most of the tourists ... read more

We were sad to leave Siem Reap but very excited for our next stop: Phu Quoc Island. This was the last destination of our trip and we stayed for a full four days to relax a bit before heading back to the States. We wish we could have stayed longer! It is a beautiful island that is extremely undeveloped so you don't see the highrises typical of beach resorts. The beaches are pristine and we enjoyed touring around on our moped and enjoying the sunsets with our Bah Bah Bahs (333 a local beer made in Vietnam) We got to visit a pearl farm and meet Baboo, the cutest monkey in the world...but don't worry, I didn't buy any pearls even though I was very tempted. We had some great fresh fish meals on the beach ... read more

.....And onto the next leg of the journey, a 4-night stay on tropical Phu Quoc island, an island located just off the coast of Cambodia, roughly the size of Singapore. Whilst the development on the island in no way mirrors the high-rise of Singapore, tourism here is merely in its infancy, and with a new international airport currently under construction, Phu Quoc appears to be a tourist magnet just waiting to be strongly magnetized. The choice of hotel, the Thien Hai Son, was a suitable one, since it is located on a stretch of road along which there are a fair few commendable eateries representing a few different nations (Indian, Australian, etc). The hotel is also located a stone's throw away from the beach, and within walking distance of the island's only settlement of any size, ... read more

4,000 photos in my travel blog page were taken by me using Ricoh roll film and digital cameras. I still like the Ricoh very much, but couldn't find out a professional camera of this brand name in Hanoi. From now on, I will use a new camera of the Canon which is worth US$850. I am still learning how to use it and here are some first shots on my trip last week. Phú Quốc island - From 4th to 7th December 2010 Phú Quốc island is located in the southernmost region of Vietnam, and also in the Gulf of Thailand. From one of the northern capes of this island to Cambodia, the seaway distance is only 5km and it takes 30-60 minutes to travel by boats. The distance from northernmost point to southernmost point of ... read more

Phu Quoc is a tropical island off the coast of Vietnam and Cambodia that belongs to Vietnam. It has your picture postcard white sand beaches and palm trees swaying under blue skies dotted by puffy white clouds. We thought it sounded like a great place to take a break from our vacation. Once there, however, it did not live up to our hopes. Although Phu Quoc is very close to paradise, it has so much trash floating in the water that I took to calling it the city dump for paradise. It is really difficult to enjoy the swimming when there are plastic bags curling around your ankles. We took a day long snorkel trip and one stop was a scene that looked like a postcard you would send home to make people jealous. Once we ... read more

Hummmm. I hope that this works? I have two entries into this, but they are stuck "publishing" for some reason! I had a great time on the blissfull island with Colli Walil... and on the way to Hanoi (where Jess again is!) i made friends with the pilots and went out with the American/ Canadian/ etcs of Hanoi last night, so that was amazing. Just in a lake viewed, fully glazed flat trying to sort internet stuff, but i will write longer soon... Lots of love. Xx ... read more
