We left the relative comfort and normality of Ho chi minh at 07.00 on Sunday morning, to head off on our first real excursion!! We booked a 2 day, 1 night trip to the Mekong River Delta. It was a lot of travelling, by various methods...bus, boat, ferry and bicycle!!! But well worth it, and hope the photos do it justice??? The first day, we went to a place called Cai be, and saw the floating market, basically a load of boats, with people trading goods, it was fascinating. Then we headed to a small island called An Binh for lunch with some local people, again very nice grub!! After this, back on the bus to Chau Doc, where we spent the night on a floating hotel, which was very cool, and fairly quiet after the hustle and bustle of HCMC. Next morning, up early - 06.00 for breakfast, then off on a slow boat to Phnom Penh - tell you more about that in a bit!!!! I would def recommend visiting the Mekong Delta, it is a real eye opener, and quite spiritual, but be prepared for a long couple of days where you spend a lot of time travelling!!!
