In the mid 1960's, Thailand was going through major cultural changes with increased exposure to both the good and bad sides of Western culture as the U.S. military presence increased. Starting in Bangkok, the middle class expanded rapidly, with young Thais increasingly going abroad for their college education and bringing home western ideas; especially materialism. Previously mission work was focussed on the lower class farmers and villagers. My Dad saw the need to reach the middle and upper classes who were now more receptive to Christianity.
