Arrived in hau hin on friday afternoon. It was a long trip I caught the government bus from the southern bus terminal it's the best way to travel sure, it takes a while but its cheap as chips. One problem was the bus seamed to stop every 300 metres and let someone on/off and by the time we got to cha am it was just as the schools were finishing so 50 school kids piled on. It was a very a very hot day when I got to hau hin and I had to walk quite a way to the hotel i was staying at but resisted all the offers of a tuk tuk ride. When I got there I just wanted a room fast, so I paid my money and took a room. Went out ... read more

We have been blessed with beautiful weather in our final week in Thailand. Sharon has been making the most of it whilst I have been taken over with suduko addiction. I can't really tell you much about Hua Hin apart from it has a lovely long golden beach and a new shopping mall complete with western shops and multi-screen cinema. We have been very lazy with regards to sightseeing. We are staying in a lovely studio apartment and have been enjoying the benefits of a great swimming pool and free dvd hire :-) We have ignored our $50 a day budget, something we have stuck to for 6 months, thrown caution to the wind, and living as king and queen on $70 a day instead :-) Everything must come to an end and so, this ... read more

Ricky here - got 10 mins so thought I would add something! So we got back to our beach front pad at about 4.30am on Sunday morning - or so we believe according to the time of the last picture on our camera! Having said that, we were up reasonably bright and early and were packed and checked out of the Anantara by about 11.30am. This gave Ricky a chance to take a final walk to the Seven Eleven for some breakfast and drinks for the taxi. We had been warned that the journey back to Bangkok airport could take up to five hours depending on traffic (you have to go right through the city centre to get to the airport) - so we had booked our cab (a jeep type thing given the amount of ... read more

Our last day in Hua Hin was quite civilised (ahum!). We took a stroll along the beach and a dip in the pool, where we said our goodbyes to Gavin and Claire. Funnily enough, they are visiting Melbourne in January, so we will be catch up right across the world next time, not just half way!!! We headed into town and stumbled across a Tesco Express which sold - brace yourself - chicken feet and fish balls!!! Have a look at the pics if you’re brave enough!! To work up an appetite, I got a french manicure and pedicure and Ricky got a full body Thai massage - with no EXTRAS!!! I was there the whole time watching - just to be sure!! And after a massive sushi feast in a swanky sushi joint we headed ... read more

The next morning, we slept till 12pm!! I was raging we missed breakfast, but delighted we didn’t miss pool happy hour!!! The 4 of us got chatting to some other Scottish contingents in the pool - funny that - it was all Scottish folk in pool at that time!! We pretty much spent the whole day there. Every hour is happy hour for Ricky and me!! Later on we headed to the Night Market and in, true Thai style, you can buy just about anything for nothing!! We had some dinner there at a seafood place were the waiter came over with a massive king prawn and then an even bigger king prawn to help us decide. We took a wee walk around town and it was here that I was really surprisingly cultured shocked by ... read more

So while we were in Bangkok, Ricky’s mate from work, Gavin and his wife Claire were relaxing in a tranquil Thai resort on the beach at Hua Hin. We decided to join them for a couple of nights before we embarked on the remainder of our journey to the other side of the world in Melbourne. Hua Hin lies 250kms south of Bangkok so, given that our luggage consisted of 5 massive suitcases, flying there just wasn’t an option. We found a taxi driver who had a taxi-van that would take us for 3000THB (less than £30). Not bad, although when we got out of Bangkok and the lines on the road disappeared, I began to think paying the excess weight costs would have been the safest option. Especially in Thailand where I don’t think there ... read more

Untitled Luke Williams & Katie Ellis Hey everyone, Just thought we'd get in touch before we move again, onto some remote islands. The past week has been a real lazy, beach week. Waking up around 10 everyday (but that doesn't mean getting up then!) and then rolling onto the beach. We've done a bit of sightseeing but spent most of the time swimming, sunbathing and building sandcastles (Luke!). On Sunday we got caught up in the celebrations of a traditional Thai wedding. What an experience! Lots of loud music and lots of dancing with the majority of them really, really drunk! The precession moved along the street and took ages. The bride had high heels and had to keep stopping to have a sit down but the groom (typical man) got carried on the back of ... read more

Monday, June 4, 2007, began with a 7 AM arrival from Chiang Mai at the Sam Sen railroad station in Bangkok, about 15 minutes from the guest home that my sister, Carol, manages. We had a quick breakfast and showers, changed clothes, dropped off dirty clothes and packed up clean clothes, and by 9 AM we were off again with the guest home driver and van, with our first stop being the Rose Gardens. Back in the '60s the Rose Garden owner, who was a friend of my dad, started Thailand In Miniature (TIM) Land near Don Muang Airport. Anyway, he eventually became the mayor of Bangkok, a very good one, and his small tourist attraction moved and evolved into what is now the Rose Gardens, an extensive area with recreated Thai village where a wide ... read more

Hi everybody sorry for the delay in the next blog we have not been bothered to sit down at a computer it is so hot and humid. So we are now in Thailand. Over the last week we have done quite a bit of moving about since we last updated from Shanghai. From there we got the sleeper train down to Hong Kong, ferry to Macau and plane to Bangkok shortly followed by another train to Hua Hin where we are now. So much has happened over the last week or so that we really cant remember or be bothered to write it all but we'll do our best. So here goes.. Some day last week (its getting hard to keep count now) We left Shanghai after staying there for about a week. We both ... read more

Hello, well to bring you up-to-date, I'm still in southern Thailand just relaxing, as I've met many great people here, am learning to speak Thai more each day and was rather travel-weary after being on the road for months on end. Hence, I've returned to Hua Hin for a short time, and even though there is not much to do here, it has a somewhat intangible charm that has kept me here longer than initally expected. I have actually booked a ticket to Malaysia next week (can you believe it!!) where I'll spend several weeks followed by a short spell in Indonesia. However, I do plan to make a new Thai visa and return for 3 weeks as I'd like to meet up with my good French friend Niko in July (he returns to Thailand ... read more
