Scruffy but great food and, it seems, great beer.
For a break on the way to Hua Hin we stayed for 5 days in Cha Am. It seemed a good place to stop as it has a beach and hotels. It is two and a half hours by taxi from Bangkok airport and we negotiated a price of 2,000 Bahts (£40) for the journey.

We did not really know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised as the holiday area is away from the town and although quite small has a 'strip' alongside the beach which comes alive at night with stalls on one side selling food (looking at it I would think strictly for locals) and restaurants and bars on the other. When we arrived, the beach was full of sunbeds and although they were in abundance we had to pay 150 Bahts (£3) for two. On our second day we went to the beach but the beach was bare, not a sunbed to be seen. When we asked why we were told it was Wednesday? Apparently Wednesday is when they clean the beach, it must take all day!

The holiday makers were mainly Scandinavians and predominantly Norwegian. Although lots of folk come from Bangkok for the day. It is a quiet place so do not expect a plethora of nightclubs or maybe even one.

We enjoyed our stay but 5 days was enough for us.
