Hua Hin pronounced something like (Wha-heen) was a destination we hadn't initially thought of in our planning, but as we were forced to leave the Ko Samui area sooner than hoped, we decided to give it a go, especially since it was on our route back to Bangkok. Guidebooks describe Hau Hin as a resort for Thais mainly from Bangkok, didnt appear so at first, it had plenty of western tourists with the usual bars and restaurants, once we visited the night market and beach we realised they were right. We also noticed prices here were the cheapest so far.

When we first arrived a girl from the bus company organised a tuk tuk to take us, and another couple to a guest house at 600 baht per night near the beach. The cheeky driver who charged us 200 baht drove about 300 yards, turned a corner and tried to drop us off at a totally different hotel. The receptionist appeared offering us a room for 1200baht, this price dropped to 800 as we were leaving. It probabaly was decent accommodation, but didnt want the driver to earn any commission. He never did drop us off at

the guest house, only the general area, so we wandered about enquiring at various guesthouses most of which were too basic. Ironically we were walking to the Sand Inn, a place we actually ended up spending 4 nights, when a girl named Apple stopped us and said she had a good clean room for 500 baht, should've cut her down to 400, never mind. After dumping our rucksacks we headed out for dinner and a look round. The Sand Inn was nearby so checked out their rooms, a bit run down perhaps, but it had what we wanted, air con, tv,and fridge for our vodka! The staff were friendly, it was a pity Apple stopped us or we would have been able to settle in straight away.

Quite like the vibe in Hua Hin, it has a good beach with large smooth rocks and horseriding, good bars, massage parlours, reccommend the Elephant Massage Parlour, and as usual good Thai restaurants, must recommend Bird Chilli restaurant at the Night Market.Although have to say there is a higher percentage of street/beach sellers and Indian tailors here than elsewhere. The Indian tailors are the ones who cannot let you

pass without trying to engage you in conversation, with the obvious intention of persuading you to enter their shop to be measured up for a suit.

Spent a day at the beach, where we witnessed PARASOLS GROWING LIKE MUSHROOMS, it was a bit overcast but warm, picked a sunbed spot from the many on offer, they certainly look after you. It started off with one parasol, then the wind picked up, another one, a little drizzle, 2 more, raining heavier, another 2 or 3 , until we had about 7 parasols protecing us, finally they rigged up a plastic sheet above us to stop any drips. The boys would do well in the Fire Brigade Salvage division. They also served us food and drink under our mad cover as well. When we were leaving they asked us if we would return next day, we indicated only if dry, the old lady said "TOMMORROW THE SUN WILL SHINE, I WILL PRAY TO BHUDDA". In some ways it reminded us of a typical Scottish seaside visit when you were a child, except that, you could still go into the sea and not come out a greyish
