We arrived back in America at SFO February 28, 2007.
Back to the Bay.
Back to family.
Back to reality?
Not so much.
Boy are we LUCKY!
Maybe a touch Spoiled too!
'Back to Reality' for Mike and myself meant wine and laughter, taco feasts, soaking in Calistoga, catching up with the best of friends, the sights of Tahoe, snowboarding, and reminiscing about times that are sometimes forgotten.
Work?...Not yet, possibly not till April (GASP!). Home?...not a set place yet, simply where the heart is with family and friends. Life has brought us back to America but not to reality quite yet. Thailand seems like it happened in a magical place where time stood still. Looking at the 3000+ pictures we took is amazing (Yes, I said 3000+!). Thailand was so wonderful. The experience has given us both fresh eyes and a perspective that is well, to sound a bit cheesy...PRICELESS.
During our last few weeks in Thailand we decided we'd write our final blog once we got back to California. We didn't want to spend any of our last precious time in an internet cafe as the hourglass grew so close to empty. Arriving home
we quickly discovered that plugging away in front of a computer didn't really fit into our agenda of catching up with those we love. So, here we are almost two weeks later in Tahoe (snow and all) and I am trying to remember what sort of mischief we were getting into in Thailand during the final leg of our trip.
Instead of blogging every detail about the final days of our adventure I am going to keep it short and sweet. I’m going to tell you about the most special things about the last few spots in Thailand we were lucky enough to touch our toes to. And it goes a little something like this…
We spent a few days on Koh Lanta. Koh Lanta had beautiful beaches, darling kitties, and a magical rainstorm that we had the pleasure of sitting on the beach and enjoying. Nothing is more romantic than sitting in the rain with the one you love. We rode our motorbike back from the beach in the rain while the power was out in the main town. All of the shops and houses were lit up by candlelight. It truly was magical; our favorite
motorbike ride ever!
From Koh Lanta we took a long tail boat over to Bu Bu Island. Bu Bu was about as tropical as one can get. The entire Island takes a 15-minute walk to get around and there are only 22 bungalows on Bu Bu. Just by random luck we managed to snag one of the best rooms on the Island (such lucky dogs we are). This Island had it all: lizards, crabs, and giant toucan looking birds. We spent our days with our toes in the sand and our nights swinging in hammocks as we waited for dinner.
Next we headed back to Krabi. We booked a day boat trip to Koh Phi Phi to do some snorkeling and see Maya Bay AKA “The Beach”. Koh Phi Phi was spectacular. Maya Bay was so GORGEOUS despite the crowds. The sand was as fine as flour. We had a wonderful time even if the boat trip was super touristy.
After Koh Phi Phi we experienced the most awful travel day of our trip. P. P. Family Tours took us on the biggest run around to get to our next destination: Koh Phang Nang. Lets just say
the plan was to have us on Koh Phang Nang by 6:30PM and we didn’t get there till almost 9:30PM…No Bueno! The group of 50 or so people we were traveling with quickly turned into the United Nations of pissed off travelers. People from all over the world furious and swearing in all sorts of cool foreign dialects; it was quite entertaining despite the inconvenience. Once we finally arrived at Koh Phang Nang we struck gold again. We managed to snag a beach front bungalow on Long Beach at nearly 10PM (How do we get so darn lucky?). We decided to soak up our last few Island days by chillaxin’ extra hard. We went to a half moon party (a huge beach party that goes till sunrise) and had an awesome time. With great sadness we said goodbye to Koh Phang Nang, which meant goodbye to the Islands of Thailand.
It was time to head back to the mainland. We spent two days in the very cute beach side town of Hua Hin. Hua Hin is were Thailand’s King vacations in the summer time. Mike went golfing in Hua Hin. I stayed behind and got a 3-hour massage for
$25! It was sooooo AMAZING! Mike found a new woman while he was out golfing. His new woman was very obedient and went above and beyond for him. Her name was Nong and she was Mike’s Caddie. When Mike golfed well Nong would say, “Good Job”. When Mike golfed bad she would say, “Its Okay”. Very funny and cute! Lucky for me Mike didn’t runaway with Nong.
Leaving Hua Hin was so hard to do. From Hua Hin the beaches of Thailand would be a memory. But, we had to... so back to Bangkok we went to catch our flight home the next afternoon. We decided to stay on Khao San Road, which is the back packer Mecca of Bangkok. It was our last night in Thailand and though we were sad to say goodbye we were ready to head back home. Our last Night in Thailand was really special. Mike and I had an amazing dinner and just enjoyed each other’s company and soaked up our last few moments as world travelers.
Our plane left from Bangkok at 1:30PM and arrived in Taipei, Taiwan 3 hours later. We then had a 5-hour layover in Taiwan. We spent
our layover wandering around the creepily empty airport. From Taiwan we headed to San Francisco. The flight was 10 hours long. Being the seasoned travelers we are we took the long flight in stride.
So, back in the states we are. Back to winter. Back to family. Back to friends. Back to the places we know the heart is. Thailand is now filed under “Memories” in our brains and our hearts. We had such a fantastic experience learning that the world is such a big beautiful place.
Being home is so comforting but there is one big question that both Mike and can’t stop asking ourselves:
“WHERE ARE WE GOING FOR OUR NEXT TRIP?!?!?!?!?!”
Thank you for allowing us to share our trip with you. It truly was a wild, fun, beautiful ride that taught us life long lessons that couldn’t be learned any other way. If a picture is worth 1000 words there are 136,000 words for you to enjoy in this blog! Thank you again for all you kind words and well wishes throughout our journey.

P.S. We'd like
to say a special thank you to Paul Hartman (Mike's big brother). He was the one who found this site and without it we wouldn't have been able to share our trip with all of you. Plus, we wouldn't have this special keepsake for ourselves. Thank you, Paul! You rock!
