After our little adventure jungle trekking it was back to more island time. We returned to Ko Lanta and before we'd barely opened our bags in the new bungalow Sharon, Scott , Kyla and Jake came calling round to see us. Jake needed his boat fixing and had kept wanting to know where Grandpa was!! So for the last couple of weeks we've been alternating between doing the family thing.....Beach, rock pools, swimming, family dinners etc and partying at night. The temperature here is getting hotter by the day. ( sorry to rub it in, you people in Britain) so our main objective is keeping cool in the afternoon when the sun it at its highest and the trees lining the beach no longer offer shade. We did have a major downpour of rain one afternoon ... read more

Sunday 24 February, 2018 Woke about 8.30 am. This morning we were due to change rooms, at the hotel's request. We got our coffees and started putting things in bags to move four villas down to number 3. At about 11 am Nadege came to the room and said the other villa would be ready in 10 minutes. Shortly after we noticed a small green snake climbing along the roof and heading down the rope into the hammock. We don't have a problem with snakes, at home we know which is which. Here they are unknown to us. So I popped to see Nadege who came back to the villa and said it was a coconut snake and harmless. So, we moved the stuff with a bit of toing and froing, to a better villa as ... read more

Wednesday 21 February 2018 Our last full day in Aonang. Weather hot and sunny. An easy day today. We left the room at 10.45 am and headed up the coast. We watched the world go by at the port area for a while. We have been very patiently waiting and watching for someone to fall in the water as they get in or out of a boat, but sadly it hasn't happened. So, after being disappointed again, we walked along the beach and headed to one of the posh bars for a drink. A small Chang and a pineapple juice. Then back along the front to Anchor Blue for a drink and some lunch. Thai food today. All very nice. Then returned to the room for 2.15 pm. Pat packed and I gave moral support. After ... read more

We have been in Koh Sok for three days now, enjoying the spectacular scenery. The town consists of one road lined with bars, restaurants, bungalow operations and the odd shop. The road comes to a dead end with the national Park Headquarters at the very end. Apart from when the mini buses pile in dropping off tourists the road is pretty traffic free Mornings always start with a leisurely breakfast high up on Jungle Hut's restaurant's terrace, watching the mountains bathed in early morning mist gradually appear and the sky turn a deep shade of blue. We had one more day left.and wanted to make the most of our time. The area of Koh Sok is famous for the giant rafflesia flower. Its a parasitic plant with fibre like tissue. It begins as miniature buds growing ... read more

Today was the day for real jungle walks. We set off from the National Park head quarters at 10am and headed for the path that headed to a waterfall via a rope bridge, very quickly the wide concrete path turned into a narrow dirt track. The French couple we spoken to at breakfast warned us that they had had leeches attach themselves to their legs the previous day so I was a bit nervous as I only had shorts on. The path climbed steep and despite being in shade we were soon dripping with sweat. Nice!! It took in a rickety rope bridge over the river at one point. For almost the entire pathway we saw no one else I guess setting off early pays dividends. Towards the end, we came across a man who gestured ... read more

After a week of relaxing on a beach soaking up the sun it was time to seek adventure. Before the sun was barely up we were humping on a mini bus to the inland area of Koh Sok national park renowned to be one of the oldest rain forests in the world The scenery on the way was pretty amazing with tall lime karsts towering up at the side of the road. We are staying in the resort appropriately named Jungle Huts. Our hut is high up reached by a very dodgy flight of steps. Think we'll have to lay off the beer if we want to staty in one piece! The breakfast area of our resort is also raised meaning great views of the mountains covered in early morning mist while eating. The first morning ... read more

Saturday 17 February 2018 A good nights sleep. Weather hot and sunny. After chatting we decided on a beach day today. At 11.00 am we left the room. A stroll up to the coast to see what was happening with the boats, then along to find a place on the beach. All very busy, but we squeezed into a spot in the shade. Turned out to be a good place which kept the sun off us most of the day. I had a passion fruit and ice drink, Pat had a Chang beer. We popped in and out of the water. We had sandwiches and drinks at the beach cafe behind for lunch and eventually left at 2.30 pm and sauntered back. A quiet afternoon and we were hungry, leaving the room about 7 pm, we ... read more

Monday 12 February 2018 Weather hot and hazy. Woke about 9 am. Left the room about 11 am and strolled to the port area to people watch for a while. Then off for some beach time. We went to the end of the Aonang beach to our usual place. Lots of people here, with the beach bars behind and vendors selling drinks and various foods on the beach. We did the usual of cooling off now and again in the water, but after a couple of hours decided to finish. On the way back we both had sandwiches in Cafe 8.98 for our lunch. Back to the room for 2.30 pm and a quiet afternoon. Around 7 pm we strolled out and went people watching. The ladyboys were in the street and Pat wanted a picture, ... read more
