After my last amazing experienceat my favorite beach club in Koh Samui, Beach Republic, I knew that we had to go back and sample their amazing Sunday brunch again. With the most incredible food on the island, great live music and an outstanding view of the Indian Ocean, Beach Republic is a true find on Koh Samui! First, Check Out Their Sunday Brunch If you are looking for the beach brunch in Koh Samui, you really need to check out Beach Republic. Their spread is simply huge and full of delectable and delicious favorites like Scottish salmon, fresh Maine lobster, and an international cheese board. I could seriously snack on all of their canapes for hours. Beach Republic's dessert station is to die for. With delectable creme brulee and sinfully tasty ice cream sundaes, your sweet ... read more

We’ve hit the last leg of our travel experience; the glorious islands of Southern Thailand. We’ve started at Lonely Beach, on the west coast of Ko Chang island. I’m in love with Ko Chang for its epic beauty, consistent neighbourhood friendliness and surreal sunsets. The tropical white sands and turquoise sea is heavenly on a sunny day, which is almost every day. It’s beginning of rainy season meaning we hear thunder often but rain only comes down for an hour or so and then the burning hot sun reappears. There are many local bars (huts built from wood and a few fairly lights) around the island and along the beach with a real party vibe. It’s been blissfully quiet during our stay meaning we’ve had the beaches to ourselves. This has been my favourite place I’ve ... read more

We arrived back in Thailand just in time for the songkran festival, a water festival to welcome the start of the rainy season. We walked up to the main road expecting mayhem, but nothing! Armed with our water guns and buckets, and ready for action, we jumped into a truck-tuk and headed towards the town of saladan, on the lookout for a good spot to jump out and join in. It wasn't long before we got our first drenching through the open sided truck as we cruised past a water station. Pretty soon, we found a good spot. On both sides of the road there were numerous water stations set up - basically big blue plastic buckets containing water, and locals and tourists alike throwing it onto traffic passing by. Many were wearing Hawaiian-style floral shirts, ... read more

What would you do on your last day in Thailand? Visit a temple of course! Tiger Cave Temple sits high up on a tall lime karst overlooking the small town of Krabi. We jumped on a local bus right outside our guest house which took us all the way to the temple for 50 Baht each (£1). As we were dropped off the driver pointed to a sheet with times written on and indicated he would pick us up at the time we pointed to. We chose 12.30. Three hours later. Service!! We walked around the temples at the bottom before tackling the 1267 or so steps to the top. Within minutes we were pouring with sweat stopping frequently to catch our breath and take in the fantastic views. Finally, at the top we walked around ... read more

For our last few days on the island of Ko Lanta we moved to the south end of Long Beach. As the name suggests the beach is very long, about 2 - 3 kms. We'd been staying around the middle area but Sharon and Scott went to the south end when they returned from Australia. The area around us had become very quiet as we were getting into low season so we decided to move too. We found a lovely shady resort with a nice pool and because it was now low season we got it for a knock down price. 500Baht ( ( £11) a night. We've been spending time with Sharon and co at their pool and beach area and were also able to meet up for dinner easily in the nearby restaurant. One ... read more

After our quick stop over in Kuala Lumpur we flew back to Krabi. Sharon and Scott were not returning to Ko Lanta for a few days yet so we decided to stay over in Krabi and spend a day visiting Railay Beach. Well 3 beaches actually. It's a place we stayed at a few years ago and wanted to see how it had changed. The scenery is spectacular , a peninsular backed by tall lime karsts. The only way to get to it is by boat. Each time we'd walked out of our guest house near the pier we were accosted by touts getting to take the trip there. By 9am we'd had breakfast and were ready to go. The tout marched behind us yabbering away but we bought the ticket at the main office anyway. ... read more

We left Khao Sok national park , and headed South to Phang Nga for a quick detour. Before you arrive to Phang Nga city, you have the choice to go along the coast or cross the mountains. We crossed the mountains. There are very sharp turns. At some point, there's a viewpoint where you can see many limestone hills. It's a quiet place. Then you go down, and arrive to Phang Nga city. The city is surrounded by lime pillars. In the center a very large park allows to stretch, relax and take pictures. Further along the road, we arrived to Ao Phang Nga marine park. A tons of boats can bring you to see the lime formations in the sea, and take a look at the famous "James Bond Island". Personally, I saw so many ... read more

The last few weeks have been mostly family time. We've spent a lot of time just bumming on the beach and in the sea, Jake and Kyla are really beginning to swim well alone and because there has been up to four adults with them they could practice swimming from one to another in relative safety without floatation aids. For a change from the sea we all visited a water park one day which proved to be fun for both adults and children with crazy water slides that hurled you into the pool at break neck speed and huge floating things that crept up on you in the breeze like some kind of monster. There was also a restaurant on the next beach front along that had a children's pool full of slides and water fountains. ... read more

Our first two months in Thailand hadn’t exactly been the relaxed chill out time we’d envisioned. As described in the previous blog, we were constantly nervous about news of the wildfires and the mudslides back home in California, and then there was my trip to Bangkok for surgery. On top of all this, Jake smashed his finger and couldn’t swim for over two weeks, making us both land-bound on a hot tropical island. We were determined our last two months would be better! Arriving back on Ko Lanta after spending a couple of days in Kuala Lumpur for a visa run felt so good. I remember our first evening back, walking down to the beach to see all the familiar volleyball players and feeling a sense of calm wash over me. We were greeted by our ... read more
