After spending an amazing last evening of 2014 with great friends, we started 2015...on and below the water. Too early morning for a 1st of January, we are boarding the Forra Liveaboard for few days diving the best dive sites from Lipe to Phuket. This time, we are doing the "grand tour", going all the way back to Lipe 6 days later. On the program, 8 Mile, Stonehenge, Sarang, Ko Pung, Koh Mok, Hin Duang, Hin Muang, Ko Ha Chimneys and Cathedral, Phi Phi with Bida Nok and Maya Bay, Shark Point, Kingcruiser Wreck, Racha South Point and finally Marina Bay. This is basically the best diving South of Phuket available. Interesting point that Leslie would finish his week very close to his 100th dive, and for Tiffany, being a certified diver only for the last ... read more

I have to admit it, I hate the serious rip-off of inflated prices around the Christmas time. This is valid for the price of flights, price of hotels...and obviously, who loves overcrowded places...not us for sure! At the same time, we live in the land of smiles...where people actually want to come to spend their Christmas holidays. This is the high season right now in Thailand...big time! We spent Christmas and New Year at home last our new home, after having spent a full 6 months on the road. Yes, you read this, it is already a full year since we moved back to Bangkok! Before that we spent Christmas/New Year in Buenos Aires/Las Vegas, Fiji, and yes Jordan and Syria...the world has changed a lot over the last 5 years! So back to Thailand. ... read more

What was meant to be our last day in Kuah was not. After completing the checking out of the country formalities we hit the supermarket for food and beverage supplies - taking advantage of the duty free we stacked a box full of spirits, 3 slabs of beer and 3 slabs of coke into the dinghy. Once we loaded this onto Luna Ray it struck Naomi that we really needed some Thai currency for checking in (despite my numerous reminders previously when we had been next to money exchangers). So we hung around while our friends from SV Dream Maker got some for us as they were heading that way. By the time we had this it was too late to make it worthwhile leaving that day. Our plans to make it up to the ‘Hole ... read more

Wir si... read more

Greetings all We hope this blogs finds you well and ready to party over the festive season. Pleased to report all's great with us. As our first visit to Thailand is nearing an end we thought we'd get this one posted before Christmas. Sadly we never got to see the River Kwai Bridge sound and light show as unfortunately a woman was hit by the train earlier in the day which screwed up the two evening performances. We were undecided on whether we should head north or south but after overhearing a Norwegian girl waxing lyrical about AYUTTHAYA we decided to head west and check it out. Ayutthaya was the capital of Thailand before Bangkok, which is only 80kms away, and in its pomp was so well endowed with gilt covered temples that it is rumoured ... read more

Wat Phra Yai, commonly called “The Big Buddha,” is probably the most photographed sight in Ko Samui. It is on the top of every “Must See” list, and seems to be popular with Thais as well as with tourists. The temple is located on the small island Ko Phan, but, no worries, there is a causeway you can walk across to get to it. In fact, if you hadn’t looked at a map you might not even realize it was on an island. Entering the temple grounds is more like coming into a county fair than a religious site, but maybe that’s not all bad. There are coffee shops, and art galleries, and T-shirt stalls, and an ice cream stand, and a store selling hand-made soap, and, well, you get the picture. There is no ignoring, ... read more

It isn't supposed to rain in Ko Samui this time of year. I did a little research about Ko Samui before I decided to spend the end of the year here. December is supposed to be warm – make that hot – and mostly sunny. Typical afternoon rain storms, but not bad beach weather. I looked forward to lazy days in the sun, reading cheap novels and swimming in azure waters. However, Typhoon Hagupit apparently didn’t read the same sources as I did. It parked itself over the Phillipines about a week before I arrived in Ko Samui, causing untold destruction and taking the lives of at least 27 people. After the typhoon had had its way with the Philippines, it moved off to the west, slowly losing power as it did so. Guess what is ... read more

Hi Followers, Today we are leaving Koh Tao and heading back to Bangkok. The easiest way (and cheapest way) is for us to get a ferry to Chumphon and then a train to Bangkok. We woke up and headed up to the hostels reception for some breakfast, we forgot to buy supplies to cook ourselves but it was still good and cheap!! We wanted a last swim in the pool before checking out at 1100. Annoyingly the weather was getting loads better the day we were leaving (Typical). Our hostel offered free drop off at the pier which was good and we also had another traveller from our hostel going on the same route as us which is always nice. We got there (late like normal for this hostel) and did a quick shop for the ... read more

Hi!! Woke up surrounded by our mosquito net in our spacious apartment (with a balcony), definitely one of the best rooms we have had so far on our trip. The only downside is, the rest of civilisation on the island is only accessible by a minimum of 10 minute car/bike ride. The low down of the good, and to be improved points of the resort is now on trip advisor if anyone is interested. The weather is pretty bad on the east side of the island, so we caught the 8.30am shuttle into town in the hope of better weather and potentially a snorkelling trip over to Koh Nang Yuan. But the weather was still cloudy and rainy on the west coast so instead we got breakfast and then treated ourselves to our first Thai massage ... read more
