Cant believe our journey to south East Asia is almost at its end. And quite a journey for sean and I to have experience together, and still remain friends. Travelling together for a period of time should be a pre-requisite before mariage. If you still friends after you know that you can get through anything.
Now, we finish our journey in the gulf of thailand's islands. Our 1st stop is Koh Phagnan, getting off the pier not knowing what beach to stay amongst it's more then a dozen. But we were aproach by a lady with a few phamplets describing some really nice bungalows, we picked one, and never regretted it. a sangntaw took us with other backpakers heading in the same direction. wow, the bungalow were built in amongst jungle like hills, 5 minutes from the beach with a view so spectacular it took our breath away, we took it without even seeing the inside, (usually we always look before taking) . We ended up staying longer in koh P.N then expected, The rest of the day , sean slept in the hammock while I lounge by the pool. And the next day I can tell you without any
guilt, that we spent it doing absulatly nothing, the lazyest day we had so far, OK , it was raining all day, but we didnt care.
Enought of this lazyness, today we rented another moped end toured the island.
We 1st toured the noth west of the island from Had yao where our bungalow was to as far as we can go north to Ao chaloklum and haad khom, all the beaches were wonderfull , Chaloklum is a fishing village ,where you c an see the fisherman drying fish everywere, not sure what they do with the drying fish after, but there is alot of it. We then went straight down the middle of the island to the south East to Haad Rin. That is where the famous full moon parties are held, during the day the 2 klm long beach is filled with people swimming , sunbathing or playing beach sport. During nights especially during monthly full moon nights, haad rin evolves to the island'S NO 1 party scene. Thousands of party goers come together to celebrate this special occasion and enjoy the magnificent scene of the world famous Full moon party. This month's full moon will
be the 7th (so we thought). It was now the 5th so we decided to come back for the evening of the 7th. Somewhere along the way our camera broke or our battery does no longer take a charge. So no more pictures after today.
The next day we just hung around the bungalow, beach and pool, we sat on the beach and watched the sunset, although the clouds got in the way. On the 7th we rented a scooter again and left in the morning to explore the north east the most remote part of the island before going to the full moon party. The road was dirt and vey steep, but we manage to survive the trip to Thong nai Pan Noi and Yai., on the way back we took a dirt road detour to Than Sadet where we hung out for the rest of the afternoon. We arrived at Hat Rin by 5.00 and were surprise to find things pretty much the same as a few days ago. The beach did not seem more crowded, although we saw more stores selling full moon paraphinalia, such as glow in the dark t-shirts, hat, shorts, paint you name
it. We decided to grab a bite to eat and wait it out. Around 7.00 we went back to the beach, and still pretty quiet, they we selling buckets of booze and setting up stands, bur not much partying. We decided to sit on the beach and wait a while, we thought maybe we were just to early or that people party at there hotel/guest house 1st then come out. We didnt want to wait till midnight to see the party so we drove home a little more then dissapinted. Our last day on ko phangan was uneventfull, except for the fact that we found out the full moon party is today not last night. We are quite the geeks sean and i , we started laughting at ourselves and couldn't believe we had the wrong date. were still not sure why and how we got the wrong date. Anyway we were too late now, we had no way of getting there as our bungalow is 45 min to 1 hr away, thats why we had plan yesterday for the scooter. But a least we got to see the before scene :-)
We took the morning ferry to Koh
Tao, our final island. We went straight to Mama O'shai bungalows, where Ann and I stayed last year. The bungalows are on the beach, a long golf put would land in the ocean. For 4 days we just relaxed, played frezzbe and read on the porch, except for the 1 day we took a snorkeling tour around the island, well it was supposed to be around but because of the 2 meter high waves, we could not make it to the other side, which was ok with us as we didnt want to get sea sick. We still go to snorkle on this side at a few fifferent bays, weloved it we saw many many different kind of fish and corral. Sean was especially impress and found a new sport, the snokeling was so good he decided not to take up scuba diving. Actually some say that you get to see as much snorkeling. The last night on the island we had a special dinner right on the beach laying on cushions and wicker mats about 5 meters from the ocean.
The next day we had a long trip to Bangkok, the ferry at 10.15 for 2 hours and
a bus for 8 hrs to bangkok . Taxi to Wendy guest house where we stayed before. Im sure everyone hear the term shop till you drop, well thats how we spent our last day of our journey. From 10.00 am to 9.00 pm.
At this point I do not want to say good bye to our journey, althought I am ready to see my family , I would comfortably stay for another month or more. I think that Sean is ready for home and is anxious to start our next chapter managing Salmon Lake Resort on April 1st for the summer/fall season.
To all who followed us on this journey, thank you. It helped us to know carring friends, family and even strangers where there supporting us.
Hope you follow us on our next journey in Dec/12 or Jan/13 to Central Americal.
PS: Maybe I'll take English writting and spelling classes during the summer or maybe not.
