Kayaking, snorkelling, walking, swimming, and golf - tres bien! We were awoken at 5.45am by nature’s alarm clock, the rooster (as James points out the only good rooster, is a dead rooster). Yet were a little disoriented when we heard the sound of two drunks making their way to bed - had we actually been teleported back to the dirty, dirty outback? Of-course it was Brian and Jim (one of the poms) who had obviously had whiled away the night drinking by candle-light (a point confirmed when we walked down for breakfast and saw the state of the bar)! Waking up so early did give us plenty of time to listen to the chorus of insects and other creatures that surrounded us - a much more welcoming sound than the constant noise of traffic we has ... read more

So, my first week away and I've a total of 2 days sunshine. Wet season in Thailand is coming, particularly where I have been, down the West Coast of the South. Spent night in a cheap wierd place in the middle of nowhere, but somewhere near Bangkok Airport? Really cheap, at Tom's Restaurant, but Tom's Cafe across the hall was a little pricey in comparison. One sells meals the other does coffee and cake, I guess you can gues which is which? Met Tom as well! An amazing man (english), asked if he could help when ordering food, so I told him what I wanted, he then proceeded to look at me and then the Thai girl and said nothing (Sound familiar?). The amazing thing was, I actually got what I wanted. This Tom clearly ... read more

We were going to book an agent to take us from Trang directly to Langkawi but Chad and I thought it would be more exciting to make our own way to Langkawi. The first step was getting a tuk-tuk to the bus station, next a local bus to Satun which got very busy but it was good to be amongst the locals. Check out the photo, can you see Sharon?? After a few uncomfortable hours we arrived in Satun and again haggled with a tuk tuk-driver to take us to the ferry terminal. We got the 4pm ferry and arrived in Langkawi just before 7pm. Whilst waiting at the terminal we booked a room at the Gecko Guest House which was a great idea as when we finally checked in they were full and turning people ... read more

After spending a fantastic two weeks in Ko Lanta we took a shared minivan south to Trang. Trang if renowned for its great coffee, lively markets and historic architecture. It was a nice change to be somewhere with a bit of action. Luckily the hotel we wanted to stay at had a room (280 bht incl. air con) sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. The hotel (Ko Teng) was huge and looked really old with high ceilings and lots of spooky dark corridors ! We spent a couple of days in Trang checking out the shopping malls and trying the delicious coffee and desserts. The night markets are fab and sell weird and wonderful things. We ordered a couple of sticks of some kind of meat which turned out to be liver (at least it wasn't bbq'd cat :-)) We ... read more

It been a little while since I have been able to get on the internet.. 2 weeks to be exact. We have been exploring the west side of Thailand, and have been on a dive boat, and 3 different islands. We started out on Ko Phayam (Ko means island in Thai). We had a great little beach bungalow, and the beach was nice white sand. This was the first place I got to play some beach volleyball, and boy did I really need to play. The group of players turned out to mostly be Canadians.. So we had a great time playing and hanging out with the other players. From Ko Phayam we boarded a dive boat for 3 day of diving for Christine and Snorkeling for me. We met some great fellow travelers on the ... read more

Day 281, 8th March Ko Lanta - Sikao - Trang I awoke at first light on the beach. Packed my tent, got on my bike and set out early taking the little long-boat over the water to the small Ko Lanta island, and then crossed to catch the big ferry to the Thai mainland. Ther were two Dutch couples on the ferry, all retired, doing a two-month bike tour of Thailand - respect! Once on the mainland I battled the headwind for the first 20 miles back to onto the main route number 4 south. The wind seemed relentless. When I left the 4 to take the short cut to Trang I was joined by another cyclist who was doing SE Asia. His name was Tim from Colorado. We cycled together to Trang and on the ... read more

We finally arrived at our first beach on the island of Ko Libong after a mission of a journey (train, motorbike, bus, boat, motorbike sigh!!). We were two of only a few people staying there so we mostly had the beach to ourselves. Downside was there was no chocolate or ice cream to be bought anywhere! ... read more

We are still on Koh Ngai. We had to move to a hotel up the beach as our bungalow was fully booked for the Chinese New Year (yesterday). We looked round the hotel and were really impressed by how peaceful it was. There was no-one at all at the pool on the top floor. We booked in and got a great room which has a water feature in the bathroom. The views, as we are now up the side of a hill, are amazing. Unfortunately, about the same time we arrived a group of about 27 Americans (with loads of kids) moved in for Chinese New Year (apparently the parents work in China). They instantly took over the hotel like a pack and can be heard shouting to each other (even if they are only a ... read more
