My next adventure to teach in Thailand has officially begun! It's safe to say that continental hopping is quite habitual for myself, and is surely a characteristic that will stick for the long run. Some people know exactly who they want to be, where they want to be, what they want to do and when they want to do it, from the start. Then there are the people that wait on the chance of opportunity, and choose to spontaneously play "trial and error". And of course, there's the people scattered throughout this broad spectrum of lifestyle. I find that several walks of life are incredibly enticing. Sure, a beautiful house, stable career and a family sounds fulfilling, and like everyone's ultimate aspiration. However, the route of beautiful, unconventional disaster is full of exciting promise as well. Here's what I have chosen, choose and continue to choose; freedom. Finally, I've created the opportunity to be free! The anticipation of not having a plan, after the plan and after THAT plan is probably one of the most thrilling, maybe reckless yet most genius courses I have yet established for myself. I figure when we accept reality, which has been a challenge for me
to do, we have to start making serious sacrifices. My sacrifice is putting the traditional beauty aside, and selfishly embrace myself. I believe that I can obtain the important pieces anywhere in the world, so why stay put if they will follow? We really only get one shot in this lifetime, we all get to create our own story. Whether you agree with other individual stories or not, is irrelevant. The point of this one shot is to not build the fundamentals of your story based on the roles of society, because truly, who defines them anyways? It's to follow the deep, gut instinct. Because that instinct will draw you to the other kindred spirits that fit with you, and will contribute 100's of pages to your story.
So here is the plan, and really the only plan that's set. I have been placed to teach in Satree Phuket school, located in Phuket, Thailand. Thank you universe!! Why teach? Well, why not teach? It's the perfect blend for my lifestyle, at this moment. I've grown up nannying children, (shout out to the Moen's, O'Rourke's and Habstritt's), and it has been one of the most enjoyable, and rewarding experiences EVER. Establishing relationships, mentoring youth that's on the rise, and maintaining an imagination for yourself is absolutely my cup of tea. But wait, if I enjoy kids so much, why not get my master's in teaching? Well folks, grad school is a shit ton of money and i'm not messing around with that unless I know i'm absolutely, positively 100000000% certain that teaching in American institutions is my destiny. Additionally, we all know my infatuation with enveloping myself in other cultures. So getting paid to see the world, by doing something that I will hope to love, seems like the perfect cocktail.
Why Thailand? Well i'm 27, I've been lucky to have had the exposure to numerous places and cultures as well as the traditional workforce. Asia is a raw exposure. Not only is it a different continent, it's literally a completely new world, that speaks a language that is linguistically incomprehensible for myself. Jetting to Asia is almost like the return to innocence. The return to innocence because I will be at my most vulnerable, naïve state of mind. Culture shock will hit me like a ton of bricks, and that shit is THRILLING.
In the words of Skynrd "Take your time, don't live too fast..... be something you love and understand"
