We left Khao Sok nice and early as we had plans to get to Phuket by lunch time and head down Bangla Road for the Australian AFL Grand Final Celebrations that take place in Phuket. We were meeting my friend Rob from Melbourne and his family. Rob and I met on Trip Advisor a few years back and have stayed 'facebook' friends since, and shared a beer in Melbourne last year.... We had a private transfer to our hotel, Blue Ocean Resort in Patong and upon arrival were informed that our room wasn't ready. We had a quick deodorant under the arms/change of clothes in the lobby toilet before racing out to get to Bangla Road... Rob had messaged me to say they couldn't get in to the Aussie Bar which was full and said they were across the road at the Kangaroo Bar.
We caught a tuktuk to Bangla Road and the celebrations began... I don't remember who won, I just remember it was a big afternoon! Afterwards Ben and I headed back to the hotel along Rat-u-thit Road and stopped in at Jungceylon for a feed. After a big drunken feed at MK Restaurant we started
to head back to the hotel... and within minutes had a big argument with both of us storming off in different directions... Unlucky for Ben, as he had no idea where he was going (not that I knew that at the time). I ended up back at the hotel a short time later and Ben arrived an hour later, fuming at me for losing him and me fuming at him for losing me! I also at this stage made a complain to the Resort as our 'pool access' room was a crap room right at the end with a small wading pool that wasn't even connected to the main pool... Bad start to Phuket... lol.
The following day we both woke with hangovers, sorted out our differences and had breakfast... We then headed off in search of a gym to work out and make ourselves feel better. We went to Maximum Fitness Patong and had an awesome workout.. It was sooooo hot as they had no airconditioning but it was a pretty cool little gym and we enjoyed the workout. We then went to Jungceylon and had lunch at a Beer Brewery Restaurant (I have since forgotten
the name but it overlooks a massive boat in a wading pool). We had hamburgers and then went back to the hotel for a swim... When we got back to the hotel, the staff advised us they were going to upgrade us to a better room since I wasn't happy.... We were escorted to some kind of 'presidential suite... which had a massive loungeroom, bedroom, 2 bathrooms and a small outdoor area with a door that led to the main pool.. it was very opulent and almost tacky but we weren't going to complain! It was certainly a step up!
After a relaxing afternoon we arranged a taxi to take us to the Phuket Town markets that night and off we set... We wandered around the markets which were huge, ate some street food and then found a funky little cocktail setup. It was basically a combi van setup with cheap cocktails. The girl running it was extremely sweet so we sat there drinking 99 baht STRONG cocktails for the next hour watching the world go by! A great market that is run on the weekends in Phuket Town... and everything is so much cheaper than buying
it back at Patong! After a few cocktails we decided to call it a night and head home..
