cliff jumping
getting ready... took me a sec. see me up there in the middle of the rocks? Aloha blog followers! It's blog mania these past few days after some time off, but for good reason. The long awaited first climbing blog as well as BREAKING news!
First, has anyone seen 'Brokedown Palace'? Before you get all worked up about us being in prison, it is more about the cockroaches that burrow into there ears... ready... they are about the size of a small ant and it first started as an echo in my ear for the past few days, but now it is a full onset of infection and antibiotics!! The little buggers are everywhere! Just jokin. No bugs. Fun fun.
So, back to our adventures in Thailand eh? There has been a ton of climbing happening since we've been here. Some first time action as well as some typical Haley and Dean adventures.
First off was a fantastic wander through a cave from one beach to the other with only a camera that wasn't taking pictures! It seems that we always get ourselves into funny little predicaments like this and come out unscathed... thanks world. It is a fantastic voyage of about 20 minutes through almost pitch black down ropes, ladders, rock with the
The Nook!
Haley takin it easy while deep water soloing occasional hint of light via a hole in the roof. Fantastic. It popped us out right onto the National Park area of Phra-Nang beach. Quite the reward for a giggle fest and tip toe through a musty cavern!
Next is our first introduction into deep water soloing! So it starts with coffee and a boat ride across the bay to some islands with climbing on them, but the only way to get to the climbs is by a kayak from your boat, and then up a bamboo ladder. Basically what ensues next is climbing over deep water with no ropes or gear, just your shoes and some chalk at the start of the climb. The higher you get, the farther you jump from! There were some spots where you could climb down, but all in all, there were so big ones! We were jumping/falling anywhere from 30 feet to 50 feet! Quite the rush... as well as a pucker effect! One guy jumped from around 80 feet, if not more. Again, fantastic!
And lastly, climbing... oh how it is amazing. The views are spectacular from the top of some of these climbs. We have recently be doing many
multi-pitch climbs in the area. Meaning that we are not only going up once, but repeatedly up the rock until we are anywhere from 300 to 500 feet off of the ground. The solitude and beauty is unsurpassed anywhere else on the island. Some people are even base jumping from the top of some of these climbs! Toph, get on it so you can teach me!
We still have a few days left here before we head to Laos for a few weeks, but it seems to be all rushing by... it's funny when you are traveling b/c time seems to speed up and you can't fit it all in even though you have all the time in the world... i guess these are good problems in a world full of other priorities.
Stay tuned for the next editions! Haley will be doing a fantastic bit on the animals of SE Asia as well as a food segment!
