Day 7
A Day trip to Paradise
Ao Nang
To my disappointment and I slept longer period in the morning and missing important time tripping by day. I cursed myself many times every since. There are lot of islands hopping I had planned and I have to finish them all by the end of the day. It will be a mess if I could not complete it on time. I went down and learnt from the receptionist that the there was no trips here during day and all the boats has left already. I informed him that I extend my stay for another day and I persuade him for that as all the rooms had been booked in advance. I went out to the beach directly and asked for "Long Tail Boat Ticket" for myself alone. To my surprise I found that it is still possible to do the 4 island in same day. What a pity I have to solely pay for the entire boat which could otherwise have accommodated 6 other as I did not have anyone else to share the expenses. The boatman started the boat with a wham! I managed to get inside the
boat soaking my feet in knee deep sea water with my cameras like a sea turtle. I had never in my life had rode one of a kind boat like this!
Islands of Paradise
As the boat started move and in to the sea, my mood changed and I could a rush of blood as I could see the deep blue sea and waves so close and next to me. It was a brilliant experience! Sunny day, hardly any cloud in the sky, me and my solo boat in turquoise blue water going to some unknown remote island. I really did not know which island I was heading to but sheer enjoyment of the ride in the sea overwhelmed all my senses. I got a glimpse of the Railay beach and looked perfect location to watch the sunset! I passed by Railey and found some tourists doing the kayaking in the narrow bay and small surrounding caves. I wished I could do the same.
I reached Poda Island in 30 mins. I really did not have any words to describe this absolutely gorgeous island. The white sand without any dirt and pollution and shallow sea water
with a demarcation of crystal clear transparent layer which is actually there and no white sand, light green blue sea water, another darker turquoise green shade and the last complete dark green. blue shade where the solo limestone cliff lies. It was pure paradise! And the island is lined up with palm trees. Now what to do in here in paradise except for appreciating the natural wonder god has created. spend time sunbathing. I would not mind getting sunburnt even doing so. Run down the length of the beach and since the island is just 1 km I can could cover the boundaries of the island. There is a coral reef about 20 meters from the beach.
Then the boatman took me to the little chicken island at a private place which had shades of the trees covering the beach and have enough branches which has some ropes attached. It was great to find such a spot. As I enjoyed the experience of swinging the rope attached to one of the branches and jumping to the ocean. Water was not that deep but pristine, clear and transparent. The sea in front is also of two shades one light
blue (same as sky above) and farthest is the deep sea blue variant.
After a quick swim in the ocean, I headed for Chicken Island to see why it is so called. After a 5 minute boat ride I realized why so. It saw a mountain cliff which protrude upside and resemble a chicken leg. I wonder why yet the KFC has not put this island as their advertisement. The chicken leg looked delicious wish I could have it for dinner.
I woke up my snoring boatman and asked him to take to the next destination. It was pretty close and I found there lot of tourists in there. I found out later it was Tub (Tup) island. it was supposed to has unseen sandbanks in Thailand. But with every tour operator taking people there and featured in guide books I wonder where exactly is the place unseen. But without criticizing further on that I like to mention that I liked the place a lot. It was one of those places where it has a miraculous and beautiful landscape. The sandbanks crave a path which links the three adjoining three islands by foot. And it was unbelievable
as I walked through the sea in a visible sand path below the water to the next island. The heat of the sun was extreme and I felt I might get turned to a red lobster.
It was late afternoon I headed for the last of the islands to Pranang Beach and Cave. It was another scenic beach and which had competed the previous one in beauty. It has a cave at the end where the limestone rock rises which led me to a lagoon. But at the entrance of the cave (Phra nang Cave) was Princess Godess, who is believed to reside in the cave underneath the cliff at one end of the beach.
I was getting late to watch the sunset at Railay. So asked the boatman to pick me up and get me to the Railay west beach as soon as possible. Indeed it was a mesmerizing sunset and one of the romantic sunsets I have seen as the sun went down the sky, sea water changed color. I do not posses vocabulary skill to describe or remember colors which unfold in front of me. When the sun finally set and there was enough light
left I went back to Ao Nang and paid the boatman some tip and head back to my room.
Relaxing Evening in Krabi
I hit the beach road again and just off the main beach road, I got in to the local Thai restaurant. I ordered for steamed sea fish in lemon and green chilly Thai style with rice in evening at beach road. Considering the experience I expected a small fish, but the Thai stewardess kept on repeating it is big for the price and you will not be complete it. It turned out to be a big fish really which I finished in mere 10 minutes though much to the amazement of the lady. I was really hungry.
I was very tired and I could hardly move my feet. And Yes! it was time for another round of massage. I better take the foot massage instead. I chose the one close to my room. The lady came up with those Thai lotions and cream and towel and I thought it would be a smooth one. Instead it was hard one and it felt as if she was tearing down the nerves instead my muscular
tissues of my toe and feet. Though a painful massage I felt a lot relaxed and could move legs little easier than before.
I wandered by the beach road and could not prevent myself from buying a necklace and arm band of sea shells.
I tried in search of some more sea food. I ended up heading up the Krabi-Ao Nang road and getting in to a seafood restaurant. I wanted to try out a red snapper but it did not look fresh so decided on trying barbequed shark instead. I met up with two Aussie girls in there and shared some Chang beer.
But somehow, I was hungry still and went to the Mac Donalds and ended up buying a humburger again and also the banana pancakes with extra honey.
I concluded the day checking some mails and booking tickets to Chiang Mai from Phuket on 18th. Again I expected there to be a direct flight to Chiang Mai from Phuket. But there was none. I had to book a flight from Phuket to Bangkok and then another one 3 hours later from Bangkok to Chiang Mai via Air Asia.
