Buddha in Cave
This one of many Buddha images dotted around the Temple complex To reach Railay beach you have to go through Krabi so we spent a couple of nights here before getting the boat. Krabi is quite a big town with a large centre but an easy place to get around with connections to places all over Thailand.
One of the popular sights in Krabi is the Wat Tham Seua Temple complex which is a few Km outside of the city. To get there we hired a couple of motorbike taxis who got us there in no time. Within the temple complex was a walk around a nature reserve which gave you the chance to see a tree that was 1000 years old. On locating the tree however, we found that it had recently fallen down so was more of a 1000 yr old stump now. Nevermind.
The Temple itself is perched on top of a huge lump of limestone and you reach it by climbing up a flight of 1400 steps. Sweaty work in the midday sunshine but worth it for the view and the huge Budda statue that looks out over the area. On a clear day you can see all the way to Koh Pi Pi from the

Amy reaches the top of the 1400 steps top. Around the base of the temple you can find a number of different buddhas and caves which are looked after by community of monks.
In the evening time there is a large outdoor food market which opens along the bank of the river where you can find all sorts of tasty treats - fish, currys, stir-frys, noodles, rice, bread, sweets, fruit, shakes..........and ice cold chang to wash it down. It was a great place to sit and people watch.
