Ok so its been about a week since my last entry and ive been up to loads! and to be honest im probably gonna miss a few things out!! I finished my time on koh phi phi island with 2 swedish girls that i met, and did some kayaking, fire show watching and general walking around! I had to make myself leave really as i was getting so comfortable with it, i could have stayed there for weeks! I left koh phi phi on the good advice to visit an island called Rai Leh (might not be spelt right) just off of the coast of krabi, which was a 1 and a half hr ferry ride from Koh phi phi. Im glad people told me about this island as it was stunning, it was just a shame i didnt really get much sun, rain rain rain! I guess the monsoon season is well and truly starting. I arrived in rai leh and theres pretty much 2 sides to the island, the west side which is full of honeymooners, married folk and general couple ville and it is a lot nicer. But the east side you dont have to pay much to
Rai Leh
Honeymoon destination if its sunny! stay and think i payed 10 pound a night in the end for an all right room and it is literally just full of backpackers i guess seeking there own little paradise! I only stayed here for 2 nights as the weather was so bad, i met 3 english people and being a bit crazy as we wanted to do something we decided to brave the north sea weather and rent some kayaks! Got absolutely soaked in the end but it was good fun braving it! I also climbed up to the viewpoint overlooking the both sides of the islands in my sandals, which turned out to be a bad idea as i got the top in dry weather but the heavens decided to open and i ended up coming back down the slopes with the abseiling ropes while completely muddy and my shorts no longer love me as they are pretty much stained for life! Which reminds me i must do some laundry! I think half of the clothes ive got have been thrown away, but then again at least its been really good for backpack weight!
After here, i pretty much had a day of travelling to get
Me on rai leh
at the viewpoint which is pretty slippery when wet, but gives wicked view over the bay. to the other side of thailand (eastern coast) where i was told it never rains! I got a ferry from the port of surathani to the island of koh phangan, the full moon party capital of the world! I arrived on the night when they were having a half moon party in a place called bai tai (i think). Arrived quite late with a spanish couple i met on the ferry, i had a nice italian meal (as u do in thailand), and then got a few texts from these english people i met that they were going to the full moon so thought why not and jumped into a taxi which drove me straight with the other hundreds of people and luckily enough bumped into them at the entrance while they were trying to finish their buckets (bottle of whisky, red bull and a coke all thrown in to one, nice!). Had a really good night and didnt end up going home till at least 6-7 in the morning, got my rave on which involved some good flourescent paintings! The next day was pretty much a no goer and woke up about 4 in the afternoon for some beach
lounging, and luckily again bumped into some other people we knew and ended up having another nice night on ko phangan. Bit of a shame i didnt get to see much more of the island, but if its a party you are after ko phangan is the place to go, not sure anyone gets up until about 5pm ready for another night of being mashed up! Couldnt stay here for too long as my liver would no longer love me, so on that thought i hopped onto a ferry with the english guys and went across to koh tao (diving mecca). Am here right now, and have had a good 2 nights so far of less drinking which has been very welcomed! Staying with 2 other people saves you so much money as you share all the accomodation costs! I think ive been paying 2 pounds a night or something! Been good to have a bit of company for a couple of days as well, and yesterday i did a big boat trip around the island which was pretty much the only thing i could do because of the crappy weather! Have met so many more people on this side
Me, Neil and Sarah
english guys i met out here and stayed with for a couple of days really! of thailand, but i guess everyone is gearing up for the full moon party on ko phangan on the 14th september, apparently 5000 people all on the same beach is an average number, must be crazy! Ive got some scuba diving planned for tommorrow around koh tao which finishes early afternoon, and am hoping for some sun although did get badly burnt on the snorkeling trip! so perhaps the cloud cover wont be too bad!
Not sure if i was a bit naive for my next travelling trip, but its a 36 hr journey that will take me to the north of thailand into the mountains for some trekking and white water rafting. It was 100 odd quid more for the flight that would have took 2 hrs hmmmmm................! ah well all booked and that goes on the 13th.
Ive got about 2 weeks left now and have a wicked trip meeting lots of random people and definately getting loads more contacts around the world! Quite looking forward to coming home though, and mum when u read this ill have a roast dinner please when im back!
