I'm nearly there hard too believe i arrived without a clue and now i feel ready to take on the world.(More like a class a of student's.)I had another teaching practice this week and alot of grammar and phonetic's so i'll talk about the teaching bit as i'm sweating at the thought of my phonetic's and grammar test.I had the pleasure of spending a good hour with about 9 students average age 6-7 years.I had spent alot of time planning my lesson, even dressing in fancy dress to set the scene. It went well and although i did make a few hiccups along the way i was pleased that i had done what i set to do.The rest of the week was learning about phonetic's and grammar but i'll bore you too much with the in's ... read more

Hey,just had the best week of the course yet although it didn't start like that.At the beginning of the week the nerves were getting the better of me as i was about to teach for the first time.We were going to teach 25 staff from Bangkok Airways how to speak and use english in the work place. As i stood their infront of the class i noticed the temperature go up in the room and my heart sank slowly into my gut.I had the same thought every teacher has from time to time "What the hell am i doing here" and it took a few minute's to compose myself.Thinking about it i can't remember a great deal about it,it went so fast. And to be honest it went too fast,i finished it in 35min instead of an hour.Picking ... read more

Hey all, after a very busy week i'm mentally wiped out. On Monday it's my first teaching practice infront of 25 Bangkok Airways staff in the north of the island. It's a 1hr lesson so i've been writing out my lesson plan most of the week.As i'm writing this my stomach is juggling at the thought of those eyes all fixed on me waiting to see what kind of teacher i am,so this weekend im spending most of it planning and going through what should be an eye opening experiance. In fact i have 3 teaching practices on Mon,Tues and Thurs so if i mess up i'm hoping it happens then not in two weeks time when i have to do my final practice and were the most point's go to my final score.I think this will be ... read more

Ah at last my first experience of the Thai gulf islands. Coming in on the Ferry the natural landscape was spectacular, just like the pictures in the guide books i'd been reading whilst in NewZealand. The problem with the guide books though is that they leave out most of the nasty stuff. The Lonely Planet is full of coconut trees, white sandy beaches, emerald waters etc. To be honest, I was abit disgusted when i got there. The incessant seven eleven stores (& all the other favorites, McDonalds, Burger Kingetc) ingrained on every street in Asia, ever more present in what i now know to be overly commercialised Ko Samui. Prostitutes and Lady boys line the main street in Chaweng Beach. Even more sickening to the eye is the filthy old men riding around on their ... read more

Greating's from the island of love, not much this week so i'll get straight to it!!!Started of an ok kinda week 'well' until Tuesday when they booked my room at the jungle club and i had to move out. These small problems happen for a reason and as luck would have it i found a new gaff that same day. It's not as idilic and peaceful as the 'Jungle Club' but it has something my hut didn't have'AIR-CON'.'Oh' and a huge tv,dvd and fridge and an enormous bed,so for comfort and mosquito free living i took it.Next door is a bar run by two former teacher's so i have my own "Cheers" were everybody know's my name, well they should do as me and the owner sang loudly at 3am after a night of beer, meeting and greating. Not the best ... read more

Hey,well for my first entry i can't really tell you much. After a very tiring 11hr flight to Bangkok and another couple of hour's hanging about i arrived. As soon as i stepped outta the plane it was like walking into an oven. It's been like that most of the time, yesterday it rained alot but it's nice when it does.I stayed in a hotel on the main road in Chewang so it wasn't quite.Last wednesday was Songkran so everyone was in a party mood throwing water everywhere.I joined in and spent a good few hour's by the road side straying water over every man, women and child and every car, motorbike and scooter that had been passing by.In all it was a good day and hope to be around for next years celebrations.I am now in a very idilic ... read more

Phwoar, how crap am I at keeping this thing updated... Two months after the above date and I actually write the post. Songkran - Thai New Year - is one of the biggest holidays, if not the biggest, in thailand. The festival officially goes for three days - this year from the 13th to 15th April - though the length varies from region to region. The main festivities comprise throwing water and talcum powder at people and putting this paste on people's faces (I know - madass fun, eh?!). It really is quite mad - the main streets of towns will be taken over with people bearing water guns; there will be huge gallon drums of water on the side of the road, so that people can dip little bowls into the drums and pour the ... read more

Enough beach, lets cook! Yesterday, we took our first Thai cooking class. Lisa and I decided to enroll as Jaime has a hard enough time not burning toast. We did very well, we were not the ones who got hot chillis in our eyes or cut our fingers! Feel sorry for those ladies... however, Lisa managed to turn the heat up a notch and the oil from the wok hit her arm, and subsequently she jerked the wok and hot green curry landed on my bare foot! haha . WE are the cooks. The menu: : Fresh Green Curry from scratch. Green Curry chicken with roasted eggplant and potatoes Spicy fish Soup (sounds not that good, but it was tasty) Jumbo Prawns and asparagus in an Oyster sauce. The class was pretty cool. Thai ladies did ... read more

Hello Well it only took us a few days to get the hang of Thailand, but I think we are finally able to "run the numbers" and our division by 30 is working out a lot better for us. 1 dollar is 30 baht, which means full Thai feats are 2 dollars, are accomodation was 6 dollars but - we are high rollers so we bumped it up to 10 dollars to get the good old air conditioning. Some highlights of the trip Ko Samui- Thailand Checked out the Big Budda. It sits and protects the island. I have included a butt shot of the Budda for your viewing pleasure. Haha Makekoh Island- Thailand This is where the beach was filmed. Stunning salt water lake in the middle of an island in the Gulf of Thailand. ... read more

For the last two weeks, I had the pleasure of my darling friend Tree (also known as Nina 2 & 3) staying with me. This was the last leg of a 3-month world trip, so of course, it commenced with a two-hour massage at my local massage parlour. We also went shopping at Chatuchak market, which is pretty impressive for someone's first day. I took yet more time off work for Tree's stay, and so we went down south - first to Koh Samui, and then to Khao Sok National Park. On the coach down to Samui, Tree and I met three glorious Greek-Australian guys from Melbourne, who, surprise, are family friends with my mate George back home. Melbourne - it's just a tiny country town, really. Safely arrived in Samui - a feat in itself, ... read more
