Just spent 5 glorious days at Bophut Ko Samui. Here are some good, bad and ugly:

Good: the land of smiles lives up to its reputation...everyone is trying to please you with a smile.

Bad: Food along Fisherman Village is "blanded down" to cater to the taste of foreign visitors and that's great if you are not going for the real raw Thai taste that titillates all your senses. Otherwise go to the local domestic Thai restaurant usually in sheds and not fanciful deco. There is one noodle stall along the main road that is worth dying for...second only to Bangkok..

Ugly - if you plan to rent motorcyles along Fisherman Village...beware of hidden costs - gas is not included; if you are just riding around 5-20 kms around where you stay...50 bahts of 91 grade gasoline is all you need for 2 days. Go to the regular petrol station. It's more reasonable than the many roadside stalls that sell you petrol by the bottles. Beware that you would have to pay for punctured tires, so go for the newer bikes. Don't pay more than 250 bahts per day (24 hours).

All in all, a great way to spend the holidays with family members. There is a huge range of activities for all ages - shooting with a real .45 magnum; elephant riding, swimming under waterfall, scuba diving and jet skiing etc.,
