Our last week on Samui was great ..... some relaxation, touring and of course enjoying our stressfull daily routine!! Here's a glimpse of what we have been up to this week.
*** Chewang Beach ***
One day we hopped in a sarthong (taxi truck where you hop on and off anywhere on the island) an headed to the next beach called Chewang. It's a much bigger, touristy, busy and upscale area and a fun place to visit for awhile. We did some shopping, had a nice supper and ended off with a drink at the booming "Happy Bar"
*** Meeting New Friends ***
As mentioned before what we like best about travelling is meeting people from all different countries. We enjoyed a couple from Sweden (Clarence and Margartia). We spent a few days and evenings with them and enjoyed talking about all sorts of topics and subjects. We also have a fun time with a young man Sam from Italy who is between jobs and here for a few months. Then there is Danny a 42 yr. old lady from Germany who has been living on Samui for 1 year. She does contract work on her computer setting up tours
for a travel company in Germany. She says she makes enough money to happily sustain her life here. She has to do a visa fun to Manlysia every 3 months. We learn many helpful things from people like her that make our life easier here. And yes, we finally met some fellow Canadians on our Marine Paerk Tour. Jerry and Janice from Victoria (about our age) and are just beginning their first adventure to Thailand so we were able to give them some helpful hints. We may meet up with them again in Lanta.
*** Scooting Around The Island ***
One morning we headed out on the scooter and circled the island. (about 100 km) Certain sections are pretty cray and I am amazed at how Warren manouvers skillfully in and around the trafic and all on the left side I must add. My job is to keep saying "Left hand side ... left hand side". The majority of the road is not too busy and very scenic, green and lush. We discovered a new beach for us called "Boput Beach". What a hidden gem - calm, clear beautiful water and a gorgeous beach. The wlking beach road is
View From First LookOut
From Our Moutain Climb! called Fisheman's Walkway and is packed with seaview restaurants, bars and shops. Very slow and relaxed.
*** Anthong National Marine Park ***
Well, we certainly got a huge workout this day. Besides sailing through a group of majestic islands we took the challenge and hiked to a lookout on one of the islands. To our surprise, it was basically a 1000 m on a 75 degrees slope wall climb through jagged rock and tree roots. "Extreme Sport"!! Our only saving grace was the rope which you could hang on to as you struggled your way to the top. Once we started to climb we wouldn't give up until we made it to the top for the spectuacular view. Warren may hve discovered a new sport - rock climbing in thongs with heavy backpack!!! We also stopped at beautiful beaches to swim and snorkel . The grand finale was another short stair climb to view the "untouched" stunning Emerald Lagoon. A delicious buffet lunch was served on the boat.
*** Chinese New Years ***
Our last evening brought us Chinese New Years parades through the main beach road. At first it was kind of scary, as the fire crackers
they set off sounded like machine guns!! They would parade by with their dragons, music etc. and then a few minutes after, boom the fire crackers would go off, sometimes right next to where we would be sitting in a bar!! At first I thought the red shirts had arrived, but soon discovered it was the Chinese people in Thailand celebrating!!
Tomorrow we fly to Krabi and then on the our next island, KOh Lanta.
Take Care and thanks for reading our blog. Talk to you soon.

What beauty!!!
Oh the things you find when you travel. We ended up in Tepoztlan, a small town just outside of Mexico City, and went for a "walk" which ended up being a walk and then the vertical started...1000ft almost straight up..in flip flops and no waater...but we didn't stop till we got to the top to see and view the amazing area. Sounds like you continue to have a good time and seeing and doing a lot. We are impressed with the motor bike story. Our friend just crashed her new scooter last weekend. Guess 50 something year old ladies, with no experience with motor bikes should not drive them. Linda and Maurice Keep them coming!
